The Twisted Revenge: KAZMIR
Everythin’ had died down. Maybe not completely but to an extent. Nyssa and I returned to our lives and so did Calypso, accordin’ to what I know.
It was another day and another week.
I got ready for work before the usual time. There was a lot to clear off my desk and I couldn’t do it home, not with a woman in the house. These days, she was so much distraction and there seemed to be a bond between the both of us. A stronger bond.
“Are you leavin’?”
I snatched my briefcase.
“Yes, baby. I’ll see you when I get back tonight or even before. Dependin’ on when I am done goin’ round the cities to each restaurant.” I explained further, walked closer, and kissed her face before reachin’ the door again.
As usual, she made somethin’ for me to eat hours ago when I was still asleep. It was her usual style of cookin’ and I didn’t mind. It was better than other times when I had to cook for myself or even wait for her to be done.
After my meal at the diner, I walked to the door of the large livin’ room.
A sigh ran out of my mouth at the feelin’ of uneasiness. Somethin’ was off, and I couldn’t lay my hands on it. So long as Nyssa was fine then I had almost nothin’ to worry ’bout. Not now or ever.
Finally, I walked through the door and opened the gate of the compound before hoppin’ in the car and drivin’ out.
By the time I was done, I locked the gate and hopped in the car again – drivin’ away as I went into the streets of the city. In one of the many restaurants, I sat in my office and went through the report Darius gave to me. While I was at it, I knew somethin’ was off but at the same time, it was quite hard to lay my hands on it.
“Is everythin’ okay out there?”
At some point, I had to ask Darius who walked out of the office to check out the customers. Walkin’ back, I asked again. “Is there a problem? I have this uneasy feelin’ that somethin’ is wrong outside there. Is everythin’ okay?”
Fully, he shut the door and gave me a nod. “Everythin’ is fine, sir.” And I faced the screen of my laptop before me once more. At the end of the day, I didn’t finish what I planned to do. If there was somethin’ I needed to do, it was gettin’ home and joinin’ my wife on the bed.
“Are you leavin’, sir?”
I turned, givin’ Darius a nod. “I need Stella in my office as soon as possible,” orderin’ ‘im, I took a seat again and waited on the woman who knocked on my door in no time. “I have a feelin’ I won’t be here until next month. It’s only a few days until the end of the month.”
She nodded, walkin’ closer. “Is everythin’ okay, Mr. Draven? What ’bout Nyssa? Is she fine too?”
“Of course,” I got on my feet and gave her a nod. “She is doin’ very well and you have nothin’ to worry ’bout. I’m only makin’ all these efforts so that we can spend time together before I resume again fully – next month. But in the meantime, I need you to brin’ the documents home. If there’s anythin’ I need to sign or work on, reach out to me and I’ll let you know whether or not you should brin’ it to the house. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Mr. Draven.”
“I’ll see you when you need to come to the house.” And I was walkin’ away, leadin’ my way to the lot where my car was parked. “Let Darius know that I am gone. And also pass this message to ‘im as well.”
She waved and turned to walk away, after askin’ me to send her regards to my wife. And now, I drove away from through the gate after wavin’ at the man in charge of the gate. It didn’t take long for me to reach the Estate of my house, and I recalled how I had forgotten to get a bucket of ice cream as I promised myself this mornin’.
Into the compound, I drove.
“Baby?!”
As usual, I carried myself into the house – with her name at the tip of my mouth. “Nyssa? Where are you?” Smilin’, I heard the sound of the door leadin’ in and out of our room open – and there she was. “Come here.”
She trailed down the stairs, openin’ her arms and there was me who did the same.
“Baby.” Her voice, a little bit different, struck me. Maybe she was under the weather, and I didn’t bother to ask. “How are you? How was your day at work?” Settlin’ on the couch, I did the same. Did she change her perfume? She’s ne’er done that.
“I had a good day. What did you do?”
“Tired, so I slept all day.”
“You know, I wanted to talk to you ’bout somethin’ this mornin’. But you left and there was not much chance to brin’ it up. I also didn’t want to do that over the phone.”
“I see,” I let her lay her head on my chest. “What’s it ’bout? Is everythin’ okay at all?” Sittin’ up and adjustin’ her head, I asked. “What do you want to talk ’bout?”
“Well, Kazmir-” she smiled and looked at me.
“Before we get on with that, I need you to know that I changed my SIM. You know, I got tired of it and decided to change. I’ll send you a text with it so you can have it before the end of today, mm?”
It sounded strange, but I didn’t mind.
So what did she want to talk ’bout? My gaze didn’t leave her lips that moved. “I want us to wed again, Kazmir. Don’t you think the same? I mean, I’m recallin’ a lot but not all. I’d still love us to be wedded. You know, it’s somethin’ I’ll recall and not forget like the ones in my past.”
“Uh, I mean. Do you think it’s necessary? Our weddin’ pictures are all over the house, you know? Do you want this, Nyssa? I think-”
“I want it, Kazmir,” she heaved a sigh. “It’s proof of my love for you, too. I’ve fallen so in love with you lately, in case you don’t know. We should wed again, please.”
If that’s what she wanted, how could I refuse her? I smiled and made her lay on my chest again. “When do you want us to go ahead with the weddin’ plans?”
