The Unexpected Reunion: NYSSA
The day had come, and I was ready. To my shock, Kazmir was downstairs preparin’ breakfast when I walked out of the room.
“It’s early to do that,” I sat on one of the diner chairs and let out. “Did you have a good night’s rest, though? Thank you for helpin’ me out in the kitchen today but don’t you have work?”
“Stella will handle everythin’-” he let out, walkin’ out of the kitchen with a tray.
“I had a good night’s rest, did you also sleep well?” Placin’ the tray before me, he threw the question. “You look good, too. What’s the occasion?”
A chuckle ran out of my mouth and I heaved a sigh. “You know,” I let out. “We both don’t know what exactly it is, but I know I am safe with the woman so we have nothin’ at all to worry ’bout. Do you understand me?” Diggin’ into the meal once more, I let it out.
“Thank you for the meal, Kazmir.” I said and concentrated more on fillin’ my stomach.
Even while I ate, many thoughts were runnin’ through my head. I wondered over and over and over again what it could be ’bout and who Ariadne wanted us to see. It had to be me, ’cause there was no way she would not know this person, whoever he or she was.
In a matter of time, I was done with the meal. My legs led me to the livin’ room after I was done with doin’ the dishes behind the back of Kazmir who asked me not to. My phone was charged and I waited patiently for Ariadne who was yet to make it to the house. I now looked at the wall clock and heaved a sigh. It was only a few hours to the afternoon as agreed, which means I had more than enough time to relax.
The next time I opened my eyes, I was layin’ on the bed in the bedroom I walked out from the last time I was conscious. It was Kazmir. The door opened and there he was revealin’ his face and dressed in another set of clothin’. “How long did I sleep?”
“Two hours,” he explained. “Ariadne is here. It’s only one in the afternoon. I asked her to give you some time so get on with cleanin’ your face and gettin’ ready. She’s waitin’ in the livin’ room.”
Just that?
The moment when my eyes opened, I was scared that the man I lived with, added one or two portions of pills that’ll make me sleep in the meal I had a while ago. So this was genuine? It brought a smile to my face and I jumped on my feet, headin’ to the bathroom and makin’ up my mind also to change into another dress as soon as I was out – which I did and then started my way to the livin’ room where my guest waited.
“Hi, Ariadne.” I called when in sight.
“How are you doin’?”
Catchin’ up with the couch where she was seated, I asked, addin’ a hug to it. “Will you have somethin’ to eat before we leave? How ’bout water?”
“A glass of water would do, Nyssa,” on her feet, she got up. “I have to run some errands but I need us to be there before anything else.”
With a smile, she explained to me who ran to the diner space and back to the spot with a glass of water. “Thank you.” Grabbin’ her bag, she walked to the door. “We should be on our way already.”
With mixed feelin’s, I walked behind her. In moments, I caught up with the door and turned around to see Kazmir, standin’ up there, mopin’ at her with a look I couldn’t place. “I’ll see you later, baby,” I said, wavin’ and turnin’ back around so that I could catch up with the woman who was close to the car she came in. “I didn’t know you came in your car.”
“Oh, you were sleepin’ so you didn’t hear me drive in,” hoppin’ in the car, I hopped in too. “I own three cars, Nyssa.” And with this, she started the car. The man I am married to, rushed out to the apartment to open the gate, wavin’ at us as she drove out.
“I know I trust you very much-” I looked in her direction. “But can you at least tell me where we’re goin’?” I was all smiles, watchin’ the countenance of the woman who nodded, and now I relaxed on the chair in wait for her to tell me what I wanted to hear.
“I will come clean a little bit,” she let out with the smile that was still evident on her countenance. “We’re goin’ to see a relative of yours who you need to see. She is the way to comin’ back to who you once were, and only the woman has the key to everythin’ you’ll be needin’.” She was confusin’ me who no longer had the smile on my countenance, but a grimace rather.
“I-I don’t understand,” I confessed. “A relative, you say? How do you know ’bout my relative?” I looked at the woman who had a more serious countenance. “What are you sayin’, Mrs. Ariadne? You’re beginnin’ to scare me and I don’t like what you’re tryin’ to do.”
“You promised you’re not scared of me,” she looked at me, resumin’ her drivin’. “Why not wait for us to reach there and get the answers you need? The house is not far from this spot anymore. I’ll love it if your patient and also want you to know that I’ll not do anythin’ to you. Do you understand me?”
Relieved, I gave a nod. “I understand. Forgive me for doubtin’ you at some point.” I pleaded and she gave a nod, answerin’ a call also. At this point, I didn’t know whether or not to trust her, or start shoutin’ for help that I knew I might be needin’.
But the door was locked, and so was the window. I relaxed on second thought. Kazmir could do anythin’, anythin’ at all includin’ trackin’ my location.
In a while, there was an Estate she drove into. The woman soon stopped in front of a gate, honked her horn and a man who should work at the gate did his job, while Ariadne drove in the next time, leadin’ us to a lot where she parked before relaxin’ her head on her seat and lettin’ out a tired sigh.
“This is the point where we hop down,” the woman looked at me. “You have nothin’ to be scared ’bout, Nyssa. You’re family and I don’t think I’ll do somethin’ to hurt my family.”
Her words struck me.
Did she say she can’t do anythin’ to hurt her family? What was happenin’? I walked behind her, tryin’ to be at ease with myself. In a matter of time, we caught up with a door and she knocked, waitin’ on whoever it was that would open, to do their job.
“Ma’am Violet,” when the door opened, Ariadne waved at the young lady wearin’ an apron. I did the same and joined her on a journey to a large livin’ room not far from my sight. “Where is ma’am Violet?”
A door opened. Someone walked out with a smile on her face. “Ariadne, you have come,” she settled on a chair and looked at me. “Take a seat, Nyssa. I have waited too long for this day to come and here we are.”
I needed to take a seat, so I did just that. But the confusion on my face didn’t leave, and I turned to look at Ariadne who sat up, ready to speak.
“She is your Mother, Nyssa.”
