Just then, a taxi drove by and stopped beside them. Mya quickly opened the door and got inside. Kayden didn’t linger, casually glancing at the phone number on the roof of the cab, shaking his head in resignation as he slowly walked toward home.
A gentle breeze brushed against his face, and Kayden’s thoughts drifted back to fragments of memories.
The Scott family-a name etched deeply in his heart, marking both his beginning and end. In Kayden’s mind, the Scott family represented an indelible pain in his life.
There were memories he preferred to bury, especially those from the Scott family, which he found unbearable to revisit.
Upon arriving home, Georgia had yet to return, leaving Leah sitting on the sofa, clutching a tablet and watching TV. Kayden opened the door just in time to see Leah, dressed in a white tank top and shorts, her long legs visible.
Fortunately, Kayden wasn’t a lecher. Otherwise, Leah’s outfit might have invited inappropriate harassment.
“Kayden, you’re back!” Leah exclaimed, her enthusiasm strikingly unusual.
“Have you had dinner?” she continued. Noticing Kayden’s puzzled expression, she pointed at him with a smile, “I can tell you haven’t eaten just by looking at you. Don’t worry, I saved you some food-plenty for you. I’ll go heat it!”
Before he could respond, she slipped on her slippers and hurried to the kitchen.
Kayden felt a bit taken aback by her sudden warmth. Although Leah often engaged in trivial matters without targeting him, she had never shown such enthusiasm before. He realized that this eagerness must have an ulterior motive.
Soon, Leah returned with the food, urging Kayden to eat quickly.
Without hesitation, Kayden sat down and began to eat. Leah propped her chin on her hands, asking, “So, how is it? Tasty? This is my latest dish!”
Kayden nodded, replying, “Not bad.”
Leah didn’t seem to care much about his comment. She simply nodded softly and continued watching him eat.
As Kayden focused on his meal, Leah fell silent, putting away her phone and laptop, resting her chin in her hands, and quietly observing him.
After a while, Kayden finished eating, placed his bowl down, and asked, “Alright, what do you need my help with?” He understood that Leah wouldn’t be this kind without reason, even if she wasn’t as interested in him as Scarlett.
Leah frowned slightly, scoffing, “What are you saying? Can’t I suddenly find you likable and cook you a meal? Do I need a reason to treat you?”
Kayden gently nodded, “So, there’s nothing then? If not, I’ll head back to my room. I have things to do.”
Just as Kayden was about to leave, Leah called out, “Wait, don’t go!”
She awkwardly scratched her head and said, “Actually, I do need a small favor, but more importantly, I wanted to invite you to eat so you could try my cooking.”
“Go ahead,” Kayden replied succinctly.
Leah’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she said, “I ran into a little problem at school and wanted to see if you could come with me to sort it out. If you don’t come, it might be tough for me to handle. So…”
“What’s the problem? Is it a fight?” Kayden asked directly.
He thought Leah often attracted unnecessary trouble. But this time, he guessed correctly. Leah smiled and admitted, “Yes, I might have offended someone.”
Kayden nodded, “Alright, let me know tomorrow when you go to school.”
“And one more thing!” Leah reminded him, “Don’t tell my sister! If she finds out, she’ll blame me. I’ll explain the details tomorrow.” With that, she moved closer, placing a hand on his shoulder and batting her eyelashes, “Don’t worry. If you help me, I’ll repay you well.”
Kayden instinctively glanced at Leah’s legs, which she noticed. She playfully patted her thigh, then slid her finger down, giving him a teasing smile and saying, “What? Are you thinking of trying to taste the ice cream on my leg? If so, I can fulfill that request just this once!”
This was a blatant seduction. It must be said that aside from being mischievous, Leah certainly knew how to flirt. If it weren’t Kayden in front of her, but another man, Leah might have already ended up in bed with her legs being stroked if not to mention sex.
Unfortunately for Leah, Kayden wasn’t interested, so he frowned and pushed her away. But just as his hand made contact, Leah slipped and fell into his arms.
Instinctively, Kayden caught her, and Leah found herself nestled in his embrace.
At that moment, the door creaked open, and Georgia walked in. The two were positioned at the front door, and she immediately spotted them together.
Georgia’s brow furrowed instinctively, and she asked, “What are you two doing?”
Leah hurriedly extricated herself from Kayden’s chest, her face flushing bright red as she exclaimed, “Georgia, it’s not what you think! I just accidentally bumped into Kayden’s arms; please don’t misunderstand!”
Georgia appeared taken aback for a moment, then shifted her gaze to Kayden’s face. He remained nonchalant, showing no intention of explaining anything to Georgia.
To ease the tension, Leah blinked and said, “Georgia, I’m heading to bed. You should rest early too.”
After Leah left, Kayden also remarked, “Rest early. I’m going to sleep too!”
The two departed from the living room one after the other, leaving Georgia alone.
This sparked a bold assumption in Georgia’s mind. Could it be that her husband and sister were involved in something more than she realized?
