While waiting for the results, Rosalind made a phone call to her mother.
She had sent her a message earlier, but there was no reply.
This call also went unanswered.
Rosalind felt a bit uneasy, but she wasn’t overly worried. It was the weekend, the day her mother usually did her rehabilitation exercises, so it was normal for her not to have her phone with her. She thought she would quickly finish her check-up and then go to the ward to see her.
“Rosalind, please proceed to Consultation Room 3.”
Hearing the announcement, she quickly put away her phone and walked over.
It was the same doctor, who was looking down at the urine test and blood test results she had submitted, frowning slightly.
“Good thing you came in for a check-up. You are pregnant.”
“…”
When the words “you are pregnant” came out of the doctor’s mouth, Rosalind’s mind went completely blank.
“According to the blood test results, the baby is developing normally,” the doctor continued without looking at her, jotting down notes in her medical record. “Do you want to keep it?”
Not receiving an immediate response, the doctor noticed that Rosalind was in a dazed state.
Perhaps accustomed to dealing with various patients, the doctor calmly repeated, “Do you want to keep this child? Or would you like to discuss it with your partner first?”
Rosalind snapped back to reality and licked her dry lips. “I… am I really pregnant?”
“Based on your HCG levels, you should be about six or seven weeks along. Didn’t you notice your period was late?”
“I thought it was due to work stress.”
“You are definitely pregnant. We’ll do an ultrasound later to check. If the embryo is developing quickly, we might even detect a heartbeat now,” the doctor said, looking up at her. “Would you like to continue with the examination? Or would you prefer to discuss it first?”
“I’ll discuss it first.”
Rosalind felt a bit at a loss.
After all, if she was really pregnant, she couldn’t decide on her own whether to keep the baby or not!
“Alright.” The doctor closed her medical record and handed it back to her. “Whether you decide to keep it or not, it’s best to make a decision soon. Otherwise, you’ll miss the early screening period.”
Rosalind nodded. “Thank you, doctor.”
“With such good looks, the baby will surely be beautiful too.”
Unexpectedly, as she was leaving, the usually unsmiling doctor added this remark.
Holding the results, Rosalind walked out of the consultation room and found a bench to sit on. Her mind was in a mess as she tried to sort things out.
She was pregnant…
She was actually pregnant!
The news was so unexpected that it caught her completely off guard.
Rosalind wasn’t afraid of much else; she knew her mother would definitely oppose her having the baby! Because… it seemed like fate was playing a joke on her; her current situation mirrored that of Eva’s years ago.
It would inevitably trigger her mother’s fears.
She sat there for over ten minutes before calming down enough to take out her phone and call Ulric. But when she looked at her phone, she saw several missed calls from her mother’s attending physician!
Rosalind quickly called back, her heart racing.
“Why didn’t you answer your phone? Your mom is back in the emergency room. Hurry over!”
Rosalind didn’t even wait to hang up before running towards the ward.
Sure enough, the red light above the emergency room was on again!
“Doctor, wasn’t my mom’s condition stable? Her surgery was successful!”
“It’s her heart condition; she got agitated again.” The attending physician handed her a critical condition notice. “Please sign this; we will do our best to save her!”
