Saturday arrived as expected.
Since Rosalind had already informed Cedric that she would be taking the day off, she finally felt at ease to sleep in.
Slowly opening her eyes, she habitually checked her phone for the time and then remembered she didn’t have to work today! It was already eight o’clock; if it were a workday, she would be late by now.
Stretching lazily, Rosalind got up, washed up, and shuffled to the dining room in her slippers, only to be taken aback.
“You… why are you still at home?”
At this hour, Ulric should have already left for the company!
“Sit down and have breakfast first.” His long fingers handed her a glass of milk, his thin lips curling into a smile. “You said you were going to the hospital for a check-up today. I don’t feel comfortable letting you go alone.”
“But-”
“I know, you’re worried your mother will find out I went with you. I’ll wait outside and you can tell me when you’re done.”
Rosalind pursed her lips, pulled out a chair, and sat down, looking at him seriously.
“Ulric, it’s just a routine check-up. There’s nothing wrong with me. The company has a lot of things waiting for you to handle. You can’t delay them because of me.” If the company’s interests suffered, she would feel eternally guilty!
“Cedric can cover for me.”
“When I worked at Prosperity Holdings, you might have been able to fool me. But now that I’m at the headquarters, don’t you think I know how much work you have?” Rosalind walked over and shook his arm, trying to act cute. “I promise you, as soon as I get the results, I’ll tell you immediately, okay?”
Seeing that Ulric still didn’t nod, she had to use her trump card.
“If you don’t agree, I won’t go for the check-up either. I’ll follow you back to work today.”
“… Rosalind, I’m worried about your health.”
“I’m really fine!”
Ulric looked at her face; neither of them spoke until he finally gave in.
“Alright, but tell me as soon as you get the results.”
Rosalind made an OK gesture.
In the end, Ulric drove her to the hospital entrance. Only after watching her go inside did he start the engine and leave.
At the appointed time, Rosalind went to the physical examination department to collect her check-up form and then queued up.
After a while, a doctor in a nurse’s uniform came out. “Please keep quiet once inside the examination room. We hope everyone can set their phones to silent mode!”
Seeing the people in front of her start to adjust their phones, Rosalind quickly sent a message to her mother saying she would visit her ward in about an hour. Then she put her phone on silent and tucked it into her bag.
“Rosalind, please proceed to Examination Room 3.”
Hearing her name called over the intercom, she quickly walked over.
The doctor who examined her seemed very experienced. After glancing at Rosalind’s basic information form, he asked softly, “Are you married?”
“Yes.”
“You’re sure you’re not pregnant?”
Seeing Rosalind hesitate, the doctor explained, “There are some tests that pregnant women cannot undergo.”
“Oh, I shouldn’t be pregnant. My husband and I… always take precautions.”
She blushed as she spoke, still not used to discussing such topics with others.
The doctor didn’t even look up at her, simply handing her a pregnancy test and a blood test form. “Since you’re not sure, let’s start with this! Confirm you’re not pregnant before proceeding.”
“… Alright.” Though Rosalind wanted to say she was in a hurry, she ultimately followed the doctor’s instructions.
After paying for the blood test at the front desk, she took the pregnancy test to the restroom and took a deep breath.
For some reason, she felt inexplicably nervous!
