Ulric didn’t reply to him; he simply deleted the message, then opened the window, lit a cigarette with his slender fingers, and took a drag.
After a moment of calm, he took a shower and returned to the bedroom, holding the already asleep Rosalind in his arms.
It seemed that only at times like this could he feel a sense of reality. Rosalind truly belonged to him.
…
The next morning, Rosalind was awakened by her alarm clock.
Since she had to go out with Cedric for due diligence today, she needed to go to the office early to prepare the materials.
She thought she would wake up earlier than Ulric at this time, but when she opened her eyes, he was already up and preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
Stretching lazily, she slipped on her slippers and walked over. “Ulric, sometimes I feel like you don’t need to sleep.”
Ulric was frying eggs. He glanced at her with a handsome smile, “I’m used to it. I haven’t slept more than six hours since graduation.”
“Being a CEO is really tough,” Rosalind realized.
She used to think that being the one giving orders was the easiest job. No one dared to talk back in the company, and everyone respected him in private. With power and influence, he seemed like the ultimate winner in life.
But after getting to know Ulric’s private life, she couldn’t help but sigh-being a CEO was really hard!
Not only did he have to consider many things, but every step had to be taken cautiously. One wrong move could lead to significant losses.
“Don’t I have to earn money to support the family?”
Rosalind couldn’t help but laugh at Ulric’s words.
Probably no one else would have the privilege of hearing him say that!
“Do you even need to earn money? Just the dividends from these projects are enough.”
“No, I’m still not strong enough.”
Rosalind raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“If I were truly strong, you wouldn’t have to struggle or be troubled by anything.” Ulric placed a warm cup of milk into her hands, his voice gentle and deep. “Trust me, I’ll handle it.”
“I do trust you!” Rosalind smiled with squinted eyes. “I really do.”
This was the only time in all these years that she had defied her mother’s wishes-for Ulric.
In the past, no matter how unreasonable Eva’s demands were, she always tried to comply without ever thinking of asserting her own will. Back then, her only wish was for her mother to live, to get better.
Only then did she think about not lacking money, having her own home someday, not renting or moving anymore.
Now that she had Ulric, she added one more wish-a family of her own with Ulric.
After having breakfast with him, Ulric drove Rosalind to the office before leaving.
“I might not come back tonight. I have to go out of town. I’ll try to finish by the afternoon and come back. If I can’t make it, it’ll be tomorrow.”
Ulric detailed his schedule as if he were a husband afraid of his wife, reporting his whereabouts.
Rosalind smiled helplessly. “Isn’t traveling for work common for you? Focus on company matters. Don’t worry about me. I’ll go home after work.”
“Okay.” He nodded but still reminded her, “Remember, if someone knocks on the door, don’t open it.”
Ulric was worried that his mother or Sirena might trouble her.
