She had nothing to say.
Nelson hadn’t appeared these past few days. She tried not to think about him, but he was always on her mind.
“So, under what pretense should I go with you?” Callie forced a smile. She had been gambling these days, wondering if Jaquan would continue sending photos to Nelson. She felt that he wasn’t particularly bad.
Jaquan paused with his paintbrush in hand and thought seriously. “How about as my girlfriend?”
Callie frowned. “You seem to enjoy the thrill of forbidden feelings.”
He laughed and tapped her forehead with the paintbrush, leaving a red mark. “Having Nelson’s wife as my girlfriend is indeed quite exciting.”
This man was simply crazy.
The preparations for the wedding of wealthy people were swift. In less than a week, all of Ylosea knew that Regan was going to marry Isaac.
On Monday, Callie and Jaquan arrived at the hotel together. The place seemed vaguely familiar to her. After getting out of the car and looking around, she realized why and was a bit stunned.
It was actually a private residence, presumably the Ellison family’s property, rarely used unless for significant events.
She felt it was familiar but was sure she had never been there before.
“What are you daydreaming about?” Jaquan, dressed in a blue suit, asked softly as he stood beside her.
She snapped back to reality. “Nothing.”
In the distance, a car door opened and closed. It was Nelson; he had indeed come.
His suit was perfectly tailored, accentuating his flawless physique. He wrote his name on the guest list, his profile strikingly handsome.
When Callie looked away, Nelson straightened up and glanced at her, his expression indifferent. He walked straight towards her without saying a word.
She also showed no expression.
Who cared about whom anyway?
Isaac stood at the entrance greeting guests. He was a gentle and elegant man, looking very homely, not at all like a wealthy heir.
“Jaquan, oh, you brought your girlfriend.” He extended his hand.
“For your big day, of course, I had to attend. How’s that for importance?” Jaquan put his arm around Callie’s shoulder. “She even knows Regan.”
“Oh.” Isaac was surprised and quickly said, “So you’re Regan’s friend. She’s still in the dressing room; you can go see her.”
Callie nodded and glanced inside at the decorations. It was important but she didn’t see any elders, only young people.
As they walked in, she asked quietly, “Has your unresolved issue come back?”
Jaquan didn’t answer directly. He tightened his grip and raised an eyebrow at someone watching them intently.
“What’s wrong? My girlfriend, are you jealous?”
Jaquan was getting into his role. Callie glared at him and turned to leave, saying she was going to the restroom.
She took some time finding the restroom. The women’s and men’s restrooms were separated. Callie saw a familiar figure there and wasn’t too surprised.
Callie approached discreetly, composed herself, and stood face-to-face with Nelson.
His hands were in his pockets, his expression also blank.
With no one else around, Callie took a moment to observe him closely.
He seemed a bit tired, looking more like someone who held many lives in his hands and the head of a large enterprise.
Alone and without anyone by her side, she felt somewhat insecure and didn’t want to talk to him much. She tried to walk past him.
Her wrist was grabbed.
