Shamar had just joined the Oconnor Group and was already handling such a significant project, inevitably attracting envy.
When Callie arrived on the thirty-fifth floor, it was already late at night. Shamar was sitting in his office, the glow of the computer screen reflecting on his face, making him look particularly focused.
She leaned against the door and watched for a while. Sensing her gaze, Shamar looked up, somewhat surprised. “Callie?”
Callie quickly glanced behind her. He smiled and said, “At this hour, I’m the only one left in the company. No one will hear us.”
Callie shrugged helplessly. “Why are you still here?”
“Doing due diligence for the project.”
“By yourself?” She remembered that such large projects usually had a team, but Shamar always seemed to be working alone.
“I can handle it on my own.” Shamar smiled nonchalantly. “By the way, the app we invested in is about to launch. Your contribution to this has been significant.”
Callie felt flattered. “It’s good enough that I didn’t cause you any trouble recently. How can that be considered a contribution?”
“If it weren’t for your dedicated efforts and keeping an eye on Auntie, we wouldn’t have moved so quickly.” Shamar never minced his praise. “Auntie” he was talking about was clearly Lucia.
Callie pondered for a moment. “I came to ask you something. Is Oconnor Group playing short with Scott Group recently?”
Shamar’s eyes shifted. “How did you know?”
It seemed Jaquan was telling the truth.
Nelson really gave up the chance to fight back to remove the scandal.
Callie couldn’t quite describe her feelings, but she felt a sweet warmth inside.
He wasn’t as profit-driven as she thought.
About a week after the scandal broke, the e-commerce app invested by Oconnor Group became a huge hit thanks to strong publicity and collaboration with other media outlets. This outcome was beyond Nelson’s expectations; he initially intended to give Shamar some practice, and success would be great, but failure wouldn’t matter.
The result did not disappoint him.
Oconnor Group held a special meeting for this matter, and Callie was invited to observe. She thought it was just a routine meeting, but things became increasingly unusual as it progressed. The man in front of her tapped on his keyboard, and the screen instantly projected onto the media wall.
He spoke without much expression: “I’ll give you funds and resources to spin off this project and develop it independently. Can you accept that?”
Shamar was stunned upon hearing this. His first reaction was to look at Callie, but her expression also showed surprise. He frowned slightly. “Spin off?”
Spinning off meant separating from Oconnor Group, in other words, letting Shamar take the team and go solo.
Typically, taking a core team to go solo happens under circumstances of profit loss or team division, but right now, they were clearly getting along well.
Nelson never mixed personal feelings with business matters, but this decision was too sudden. Callie looked at the man in the main seat with slight reproach in her eyes. Why hadn’t he discussed this decision with her beforehand?
“Nelson…” Shamar misspoke in front of everyone. “Considering my inadequate experience, isn’t this too soon?”
The secretary timely handed out documents for everyone to review. “The ownership remains with Oconnor Group, and we will continue to provide you with funds and resources. You can choose to reinvest; consider it a small subsidiary of Oconnor Group. If future development trends are favorable, Oconnor Group will transfer all internet-related projects to your team.”
