After discussing with the doctors, Callie agreed to let Reuben stay in the hospital for observation.
Before leaving, she suddenly remembered something and asked Tobias, “That young lady I visited last time, did she come back for a follow-up?”
Tobias recalled, “Yes, she did. Why?”
“How is she recovering?”
“Everything is normal. It wasn’t a serious injury to begin with. A few days of rest and she’s fine.”
Hearing this, Callie felt completely relieved. She was grateful to Regan for saving her and naturally wanted to follow up on her condition. It was strange that Regan hadn’t caused any trouble recently.
And then there was Jaquan. That day at the airport, he said he was going to London. Was it to see Marilyn?
Too many questions remained unanswered, and Callie couldn’t figure it out, so she decided to let it go.
As she left the hospital and entered the elevator, she encountered a familiar figure.
The person was leaning on a crutch, looking down at their phone, seemingly very downcast. When someone entered, she instinctively looked up and couldn’t take her eyes off the newcomer.
“Callie.”
The sudden voice startled Callie. She squinted to see clearly, “Sabrina?”
She was holding a report sheet, probably there for a leg check-up.
Sabrina looked pleadingly at her, “Do you know where Jaquan is now?”
Her tone and demeanor suggested she had been abandoned. Callie didn’t know how to respond, “What’s going on? Aren’t you his assistant?”
“Assistant?” Sabrina laughed bitterly. “At best, I was just his plaything. He discarded me when he got bored.”
The elevator descended quickly. Callie didn’t know how to deal with Jaquan’s personal affairs.
He was clearly a man who played around. Trusting someone like him was the biggest mistake.
“The last time I saw him was at the airport. He seemed to be on a business trip, but I don’t know where exactly,” Callie tried to give her an answer.
“He went to see that woman,” Sabrina said with certainty. She seemed to think of something and sneered again. “I used to think that woman was the love of his life, but now I’m not so sure.”
Callie was puzzled.
Sabrina stared at her, “Last time you came to Jaquan’s office, he kissed me in front of you. Do you remember?”
It was hard to forget.
“I’m certain he saw you long before that and kissed me on purpose for you to see.”
Callie was baffled by her words, “Why would he do that?”
Sabrina’s eyes were cold and meaningful, “Maybe he wanted to make you jealous.”
Hearing this, Callie felt even more confused. She had always known that Jaquan only used her and played along without any real feelings involved. How could he possibly want to make her jealous?
Seeing her disbelief, Sabrina didn’t say more. Before the elevator doors opened, she left with one final remark. “People really have different fates.”
Even as she walked to the parking lot, Callie couldn’t figure out what Sabrina meant.
Kieran had been waiting by the car for a long time and was getting impatient. “What took you so long? I’m starving.”
Callie kicked him lightly in annoyance, “So what if you wait a bit? It’s not going to kill you.”
“It won’t kill me, but I am really hungry.” He was as stubborn as a rogue.
Callie laughed in exasperation, “What do you want for lunch? My treat.”
“Anything? How about Japanese food?”
“Japanese food at noon? You have quite an appetite.”
