The servant showed her the surveillance footage.
Under the surveillance, Reuben’s fingers indeed moved several times. Callie was overjoyed and quickly saved the footage to send to Tobias for confirmation.
“Tomorrow, I’ll take Dad back to the hospital and have the doctors check him thoroughly. It’s the first time he’s shown any reaction in so many years!” Callie exclaimed, spinning in place with excitement before running back to the master bedroom where Nelson had just opened his computer to start working.
“Why are you running?” he asked, looking up to stop her.
Callie stood still, her eyes sparkling. She said excitedly, “Nelson, my dad… he reacted!”
She stammered, almost crying with joy.
Nelson remained calm and pulled her into his arms. “Speak slowly.”
After listening to her, he understood and agreed with her decision. “I’ll arrange it first thing in the morning.”
Callie sniffled and hugged him. “Thank you, Nelson.”
“Thank me for what?”
“If it weren’t for you, my father wouldn’t have received such good care. And the medical team you arranged has been so dedicated. Thank you so much,” Callie said sincerely. “Maybe my dad sensed that I’m doing well now and decided to wake up.”
Nelson patted her head, focusing on her last words. “Do you feel you’re doing well with me?”
Callie fell silent for a moment. Was she not doing well? Most of the time, she was quite happy. But was she really well? She couldn’t say for sure.
Even now, as she looked at the man holding her so tenderly, she couldn’t be certain if he loved her.
But she was sure that she had feelings for him.
The brief silence dimmed Nelson’s previously gentle eyes, replaced by understanding. “Go take a shower. It’s time to sleep.”
Callie opened her mouth, “Nelson…” but she couldn’t find the words.
He turned to his emails, focusing on them without further entangling with her.
At dawn the next day, Reuben was taken to the hospital. Tobias was also very pleased. “This is a good sign.”
While waiting for the test results, Callie sat in the corridor, lost in thought. Tobias finished his tasks and sat down beside her.
“What’s wrong? Something bothering you?”
She leaned against the wall, her gaze empty. “Tobias, what does it mean to be doing well?”
Tobias pondered slightly. “For ordinary people, having healthy family members, a bit of money, and preferably a partner-that’s considered doing well. Of course, having love is best.”
Healthy family members-Callie didn’t have many family members except for Reuben, and everyone in the O’Connor family seemed quite healthy.
A bit of money-Nelson’s wealth topped the Forbes list; it wasn’t just a bit of money. He was generous and treated her well.
But Callie wasn’t sure if he loved her.
She was about to ask when she noticed the hurt in Tobias’s eyes and stopped.
“Tobias…”
Tobias gave a bitter smile. “Callie, you shouldn’t ask me that question. After all, I’m not married yet.”
Callie felt awkward and didn’t know how to respond to his special treatment of her.
All she could say was sorry.
In the afternoon, the test results came out showing that all of Reuben’s indicators were good, with a high possibility of waking up. Nelson’s medical team called it a miracle.
She was very happy.
