Sariah confidently retorted, “What you are doing is nothing short of doubting Dr. Scott’s medical skills. You’re judging him by his appearance. You have never been one to judge by looks, so your sudden change is truly disappointing.”
Lewis was taken aback by her words and then glanced over at the two elders.
Seth choked slightly before saying, “Ms. Faulkner, you may not realize this, but in our field, people are always respected for their medical skills. If Mr. Scott really has the ability, he must be truly exceptional.”
Sariah snorted and said, “So, you two are just flaunting your reputations! Didn’t you manage to cure my illness either? To me, you’re just envious of Dr. Scott.”
Her words were like a sharp dagger piercing the hearts of the two old men. They exchanged a look before turning their gaze back to Lewis. Lewis quickly interjected, “Don’t be rude!”
Kayden pondered for a moment, thinking that if he wanted to uncover the truth from Lewis, he had to conquer him. And the only way to conquer someone was to make them respect and admire him.
Though he had no interest in dealing with these two old men, he had something to ask Lewis.
With this in mind, he responded, “Alright then! Call that patient over, and I can take a look.”
Upon hearing Kayden agree, Seth hurriedly made a phone call.
Sariah looked at Kayden and said, “I’m really sorry, Dr. Scott, but I don’t know either.”
“No problem!” Kayden interrupted Sariah, then picked up his glass, and took another sip.
Twenty minutes later, three ordinary-looking individuals arrived. A man wearing glasses, a woman with wavy hair who looked to be in her twenties with delicate features and a curvy figure, and between them was a woman in her thirties being supported. The woman was very thin, her complexion pale, clearly gravely ill.
“Mr. Fetch! Have you found a way to save Lily?” The man with glasses looked extremely agitated. His eyes were bloodshot, showing he hadn’t been able to rest well lately.
This man was the woman’s husband, and the woman beside him was his sister-in-law.
They had found Seth some time ago, having visited numerous hospitals without finding a cause for her illness. So they came to Seth’s clinic, only to find that Seth couldn’t determine the cause either.
A good doctor could apply the right treatment to the right symptoms, but they didn’t even know the symptoms, so they had no idea where to start.
After a brief explanation of the situation, Kayden examined the woman being supported by the two. She was already delirious, her face pale, skin gaunt-clearly had been sick for some time.
“Let her lie down. I need to see what’s going on,” Kayden instructed.
The two placed the woman on a sofa, and the man looked suspiciously at Kayden before turning to Seth and asking, “Mr. Fetch, can this young man handle it?”
Seth raised his hand in a ‘shut up’ gesture and then looked at Kayden with disdain.
He actually hoped Kayden couldn’t handle it, since this was a mysterious condition he himself didn’t understand. If Kayden could, it would mean that Seth’s sixty years of effort were inferior to a young man’s.
Anyway, he decided to wait and see!
Kayden took the woman’s pulse and then flipped her eyelids to check her eyes. She had been biting her lips, her lips were chapped and torn, and her eyes occasionally rolled back, making her look terrifying.
Then he addressed those watching, “This isn’t a physical illness; it’s an evil disease!”
Evil disease referred to conditions that modern medicine cannot explain, usually requiring a master in this field to solve. These are common in folk beliefs-no matter how much medical examination is done, no physical ailment is found, but a master can see that it’s due to evil spirits and resolve it with appropriate methods.
This might sound absurd, but it does exist.
Mr. Gorden, who had long been indoctrinated with modern medicine, naturally didn’t believe in ghosts or gods. So he was the first to step forward, shouting, “Nonsense! Complete nonsense.”
Mr. Gorden took two steps forward, snorted, and said, “You’re just too far-fetched! With our advanced medicine, we can’t even identify her condition, and you just casually declare it an evil disease? Do you think we’re a bunch of pigs?”
Kayden casually glanced at Mr. Gorden and replied, “If you insist on saying that, there’s nothing I can do!”
“You…” Mr. Gorden felt his authority was being challenged and instantly became furious.
Seeing this, Seth immediately moved up, stroking his long beard, and stopped the agitated Mr. Gorden.
Then he looked at Kayden and asked, “Since you say it’s an evil disease, can you treat it?”
The most important question was whether he could cure this woman, which was what everyone cared about.
Kayden nodded slightly and said, “Since I can see it, naturally I can treat it!”
After speaking, he had already taken out a silver needle.
“Are you going to use acupuncture?” Seth’s expression changed, he looking puzzled.
Kayden nodded slightly, saying nothing else, and began to search for acupuncture points on the woman’s body.
After a while, he started inserting needles into her body.
Before the first needle could be inserted, the man with glasses shouted, “Wait a minute!”
Kayden stopped and turned around, asking, “What is it? Is there something wrong?”
The man choked on his saliva and said, “Can you really cure my wife? She’s been ill for three months, and all the hospitals couldn’t find the cause. They didn’t even dare to give her any medicine. If you can’t cure her, don’t force it. I’m a teacher, an atheist-I don’t believe in this evil disease you just mentioned.”
“Are you saying you don’t want me to cure your wife? Are you afraid that something will happen after she’s cured?” Kayden asked directly.
Upon hearing this, the man quickly replied, “No, no, no. If you can cure her, that’s the best. It’s just that I don’t believe that so many people couldn’t see it but you can just look and cure her.”
“Ha!” Kayden gave a cold smile. In Battlefield, no one questioned him-not even fierce opponents dared to doubt his abilities. But he didn’t expect this bustling city to be full of doubters.
It didn’t matter; to Kayden, these didn’t affect him.
With this in mind, he told the man, “Then shut your mouth!”
Suddenly, the man fell to his knees with a thud, instantly breaking into tears.
