“Yes,” Kalvin’s direct response shocked Kylie. She never thought that Kalvin had any feelings for her. He was just a good friend for her.
“Why didn’t you pursue her then?” Mae asked again, her expression was serious. For a moment Kylie had a thought that Mae was doing it all with some purpose but she pushed that thought away.
“I wanted to pursue her but she already had a boyfriend to whom she doted on. So I decided to let her go,” Kalvin replied with a smile but the pain in his eyes didn’t skip Kylie’s eyes.
“If you get a chance will you pursue her now?” Mae asked again. Before Kalvin could answer, Kylie interrupted.
“What are you doing Mae? Stop all these jokes. Besides we have grown up now. Kalvin is a smart guy and he wouldn’t keep those feelings in his mind up until now. And you know I am married already, so why are you making it awkward?” Kylie patted on Mae’s shoulder. After finishing her words she gulped down the drink on her glass in one go. She didn’t watch the emotion change on Mae’s face.
“If I reply honestly then I still have feelings for you. By the way, when did you get married?” Kalvin’s first sentence made Kylie choke on her drink. She merely stopped herself from spitting it out.
“Would you like to dance, Mae?” Kylie asked ignoring Kalvin’s question.
“I think I am too drunk to dance, why don’t you and Kalvin go to the dance floor?” Mae said with a wink. Kylie huffed and decided to go to the dance floor alone. All these conversations were too much for her. She needed destruction from these.
After reaching the dance floor Kylie started swinging her body with the rhythm of the music. She started moving her waist swiftly and that attracted a lot of attention. Some drunk men also joined with her and started circling her.
“I think Kylie needs help. Shouldn’t you save her from there? Aren’t you a man?” Mae raised her eyebrows. Kalvin watched the men gathered around Kylie, they seemed dangerous and Kylie was too drunk and engrossed in the music to even realize her surroundings.
When he saw a man trying to touch Kylie inappropriately, he couldn’t take it anymore and rushed to the dance floor. Mae smirked looking at the retreating back of Kalvin. She paid for their drinks and walked out of the bar unannounced. Kalvin pushed the men around Kylie and pulled her out of the dancing floor by her hand.
“What’s wrong?” Kylie asked a bit irritated and looked around the bar in search of Mae.
“You are too drunk, you didn’t even notice the dirty glances those men were giving you,” Kalvin said with a frown.
“Where is Mae?” Kylie asked and the bartender replied to her that she left after paying their bills. Kylie was angry at Mae for leaving her alone there. She decided to leave too.
“Kalvin, since Mae had left I think I should leave too. See you around,” she said and walked to the exit.
“How will you go home? You are drunk. Why don’t you call your husband to pick you up?” Kalvin asked out of concern.
“My husband went on a business trip, he won’t be back until tomorrow. I can just take a cab, my house is not far from here,” Kylie responded standing at the entrance of the bar. She was drunk and her words were clumsy.
“It isn’t safe for a girl to get a cab while drunk. Let me give you a lift. I have a driver with me,” Kalvin said. Though she was reluctant at first but then Kylie agreed. She wasn’t sure she could trust a cab driver. Kalvon was better than that.
Kalvin made a call and soon a black Range Rover drove out of the parking. He opened the back door for Kylie and then took the passenger seat so that Kylie didn’t feel uncomfortable.
“Give me your address, Kylie,” he asked and Kylie gave her address.
“Wow! That’s a very exclusive area. I guess your husband is very rich,” Kalvin commented to ease the awkwardness. Kylie stopped talking to him from the moment she heard about his feelings for her. In response to his comment Kylie just gave a smile. She didn’t want to reveal Sebastian’s identity to him. Sebastian was yet to announce their marriage in public so she thought it was better to keep it a secret till then.
Just when the car drove into the street of their villa, Kylie’s phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and it was Sebastian. Wasn’t he angry with her? Then why was he calling her now?
“Where are you?” Sebastian asked as soon as Kylie received the call.
“I went out to grab a drink with Mae. I am now heading home, nearly reached there,” Kylie explained to avoid any confusion. But she could feel Sebastian’s displeasure when she mentioned Mae’s name. He wasn’t very fond of Mae since she was very close to his father.
“We reached,” the driver announced as soon as he parked the car in front of Sebastian’s villa.
“Who was that? Who are you with?” Sebastian asked when he heard the voice of a man from the background.
I got a lift from a friend. That was the driver of my friend. I will call you back once I am inside,” Kylie disconnected the call and got out of the car. Kalvin also got out of the car.
“Thanks for the ride, Kalvin,” Kylie thanked him with a plastered smile on her lips. Kalvin sighed then walked around the car to reach Kylie.
“Kylie, we were good friends back then and I want it to be like that forever. I hope what I said earlier won’t change the friendship between us please?” he said with pleading eyes. Kylie sighed in relief that he wasn’t expecting anything from her. So she nodded with a genuine smile this time.
“Thank you,” Kalvin also smiled at her. Kylie bade him goodbye and started walking inside the villa when she heard Kalvin’s voice from behind.
“Kylie, I hope you will start designing again. You can’t make the world lose a talented designer like you. I will always be there to back you if you need any help,” he winked at her and got inside the car. The car soon drove out into the dark street.
Kylie stood there frozen by his words. Was it possible for her to start designing again? Did she still have that talent?
