Kylie’s P O V
“If it weren’t for your stubbornness then do you think you would be staying alone there?” Sebastian sighed from the other side of the call.
“I am doing just fine here,” saying that I ended the call abruptly. But the next second, I was sulking alone in the big villa. Sebastian went on a business trip. He wanted to take me with him but we had a small fight last moment and I decided to ditch him at the airport. Now I was sitting alone here. It was the weekend and I had nothing to do. Cindy was also busy accompanying Alan to his shooting. Since the time Sebastian appointed Cindy as manager of projects of Alan, she became super busy even on the weekends. I slumped on the couch with a grimacing face.
I decided to binge-watch some K-drama on Netflix with some snacks. Just when I thought to turn on the TV my phone rang. I checked the caller ID and it was a call from Mae. It’s been two months since we became friends and from then my life with Sebastian was going smoothly. Apart from the moment when we argued about petty matters.
“Hey, what’s up? What are you doing?” she asked. I could hear hustling noise and loud music from the background.
“I am just sulking and binge-watching Netflix,” I replied with a sigh. I was really getting bored.
“Wanna join me for a drink? I am at a bar and feeling lonely. Will you please come to give me company?” she made her voice sad as if begging me to join her. I checked the time, it was nearly eight in the evening. So if I go to the bar now, I can be back at home within ten after grabbing a few drinks.
“Okay, send me the location and I will be there. But I won’t stay for long. You know Sebastian isn’t in the country and he ordered me to be at home before 10,” I said already walking upstairs to change.
“Fine by me. I am sending you the location,” then she hung up the call.
I rummaged through my wardrobe. All my dresses were chosen by Sebastian himself. He picked different dresses and arranged them according to the occasion like office wear, party wear, special events, and sex wear. But there was none for going out in a bar. I became frustrated, apart from the dresses he chose for his roleplaying games in bed, all the other dresses were too conservative or extravagant for a bar. So I went to the special section and to my horror they were too revealing for my comfort. Finally, I found a decent black skirt that reached my mid-thigh and paired it with a black tank top and leather jacket.
After putting on light makeup, I went down. MAe already sent me the location. The bar was not far from my place, so I decided to book a cab instead of driving. Not long after I reached there. I walked inside the dimly lit bar. It was lively and filled with people who were busy dancing, drinking, or flirting. The air was filled with the smell of alcohol, weeds, and sweat. I walked past the pool of people and squeezed my way to the bar. Earlier Mae sent me a text saying she was waiting for me in the bar.
“Hey,” I heard a familiar voice and saw Mae raising her hand to get my attention. With a smile, I walked to her.
“Hey, you already started?” I asked looking at the empty glass in front of her.
“What can I do? You took too long and I made a friend here,” she said with an apologetic grin. I took the empty seat beside her and shrugged my shoulders.
“I had to go through my entire closet to find something suitable for this place,” I said with a high voice since the music was too loud.
“You are looking hot. I guess you will attract a lot of attention tonight,” she winked at me.
“Nope, I am okay to be with you alone. You know I have a super possessive husband,” I replied rolling my eyes and both of us burst into laughing.
“May I join you, pretty ladies,” someone said from behind.
“Oh, this is the friend I mentioned to you earlier. We met here and he is a wonderful person,” Mae indicated to someone behind me. So I twisted my head to meet the person and was surprised to see him.
“Kylie Johnson?” he said surprised.
“Kalvin Shaw,” I raised my brows with a wide grin on my face.
“You two know each other?” Mae asked dragging our attention towards her. Before I could respond to her, Kalving beat me.
“We are friends from the university, the same department,” he said and took the seat on the other side of Mae.
“Wow! I didn’t know you have male friends, Kylie,” she asked me with a hint in her voice. I patted her arm and made an annoyed face.
“We were in the same department so it’s normal for us to be friends. Also, this is the first time we are meeting after the university,” I explained.
“Yeah, she suddenly left the university and didn’t keep any contact with any of her friends,” Kalvin retorted.
“Kalvin is a fashion designer so was your major fashion designing too?” Mae asked after thinking for a while. I felt a lump in my throat unable to answer her.
“Let’s order our drink,” I said changing the subject.
“What would you like to order?” the bartender came to ask for our order.
“One whisky on the rocks.”
“One single molt vodka.”
Me and Kalvin said at the same time and looked at each other. The bartender nodded and left to make our drinks.
“So, were you guys close back then?” Mae inquired sipping on her drink. I looked at Kalvin and a smile spread across my face.
“Kalvin was senior to me. We worked on some projects together and initially became friends,” I responded.
“She was the most talented designer I have ever seen. You know back in university, I got a collaboration offer from the brand K&C for a luxury bag design. I was so terrified to design anything and then like an angel Kylie appeared. She helped me complete the design and that was my first ever luxury bag design,” Kalvin described and I was taken back to my university days. Those were the happiest parts of my life.
“Later he gave me the sample copy as a thank-you gift. I still kept it as a treasure since it was too expensive for me to use,” I said and sipped on my drink. The strong alcohol went down my throat leaving a burning sensation.
“Wow! I didn’t know you were a talented designer,” Mae said with excitement but I felt bitterness deep inside my heart.
“I am not. I didn’t finish my studies,” I replied nonchalantly and gulped down the drink emptying the glass. I asked the bartender to fill my glass and he did.
“Why did you quit, Kylie? I thought I would see your name one day on the top page of a fashion magazine but you just disappeared,” Kalvin said, I could feel his sincerity and disappointment in his voice but I chose to ignore his question and continue drinking.
“Did you have a crush on Kylie?” Mae suddenly asked him making me off-guard. What was she doing?
