Adams’ POV
Her voice, her scent, everything about her brought calm to my raging soul.
“How did you know he would listen?” I whispered into her ears, sniffing the beautiful honey scent of her hair.
“I didn’t know he would,” she whispered back, her sweet voice touching the deepest part of my soul. “I just did it, praying and hoping he would stop.”
For the first time, I was this close to her and Ted did not behave funny. He was calmer than the sea after a storm, hardly moving within.
I detached myself from her embrace and looked at the mess we had created. The chairs were broken and scattered all over the room, the table was no better than them.
Food was all over the wall, and some of the men were injured.
I searched for Ronan and found him bent above Sheila, his right leg pierced with a piece of broken glass.
He winced in pain as he removed the broken glass from his skin, limping towards the injured guards afterward.
The room which looked beautiful earlier, now resembles a litter house, waiting to be burnt down.
The noise must have attracted other guards and maids outside as more people trooped in, curious to see what was going on.
Staring at them all, I felt bad, but the deed had been done.
Lilith slid her hands into mine, squeezing them a little. “It’ll be fine,” she whispered, staring into my eyes.
“I want this room cleaned in the next hour, I want every maid and as many guards who are not on duty to clear out this trash, now!” Ronan barked orders at the small crowd gathered in there, and they all scrambled to get the job done.
I never regretted appointing him as my Beta, but as at that moment, I felt beyond proud and happy to have him close to me.
Despite being in pain himself, he stood strong and instilled discipline in my place, where I couldn’t.
“Let me treat your leg,” Lilith whispered, crouching down at his feet after she let go of my hands.
“No, you shouldn’t, my Queen. I’m fine,” he resisted, taking her hands off the injury gently.
“But… I…” she stammered, surprised by his actions.
“It would be a disgrace to your position, my Queen, but I could manage on my own. Just take A… the King to his quarters. I’ll be with you shortly.”
“After you take care of yourself?” She had a concerned look in her face.
He nodded, to put her mind at ease. “After I take care of myself, my Queen.”
She smiled and held my hands as we walked out of the room.
“Thank you, Lilith,” I whispered.
She chuckled. “For what, Adams? Don’t tell me it is about what happened there. I’m quite certain if I was in your shoes, you’d do the same for me.
“Nevertheless, I’m grateful.”
We walked in silence until we reached the entrance of our room. And for the first time, I noticed the red dress she wore.
I had Ronan buy it the day we went to Raider’s coronation in Green Forest pack, but never gave it to her.
It had a few food stains here and there, but it didn’t reduce her beauty one bit.
“I never knew red looked this good on you, you look like the goddess herself.”
She laughed, and it made my heart flutter. “Don’t flatter me Adams, the goddess looks more beautiful than I do. Besides, how sure are you she likes the color red?”
“I didn’t need to know Lilith, you are my goddess, and you are all I see.”
I saw the blues creep up her face as she covered her cheeks in embarrassment. I drew her in for a hug and this time, I felt Ted dance inside me, but this time, I could control him.
Whatever Lilith did to me was working, it made me think of rewarding her in the most pleasurable ways.
We had not yet completed the mate bond, and I wasn’t willing to force her till she was ready.
“Let’s go for a ride,” I suggested, and she turned to face me.
“A ride? Where?” She demanded curiously, her fave curved into a smile.
“It’s a secret,” I said, and she frowned, making my heart skip a bit.
“Tell me, else I wouldn’t follow you,” she posted stubbornly.
“Come on Lilith, it’ll ruin the surprise, just trust me.”
She seemed to think for sometime before nodding her head in agreement. I held her hands and walked with her towards the door when she stopped, remembering something.
“We are quite over dressed for a simple ride, don’t you think? We should get a change of clothes.”
“Yes we should,” I agreed, walking back to the door.
Inside the room, I picked up an old blue shirt and a pair of dirty shorts so that I would easily fit in with the commoners.
She watched me from the time I got rid of what I wore before, till the time I put on the shirt. I was certain she was staring at my naked body, admiring how beautiful it was.
So I decided to tease her, to see her reaction. “You can touch it if you want, it’s all yours.”
The blush on her face earlier returned, and she took her eyes away, scared to look into mine.
I soon got dressed and sat in the bed, waiting for her to change into the simple sleeveless gown she chose.
“You should turn around,” she whispered. “I want to get dressed.” Her cheeks were red, so much it made me chuckle.
“I’ve seen you naked, Lilith. What exactly are you trying to hide from me? Your mate?”
“You saw me naked without my consent. Don’t feel proud about it.”
I smiled and turned around as she got dressed, barely surviving the numerous temptations to turn around, and catch her by surprise.
Once she was done, we walked down to the stables where the horses were kept and mounted a big black horse.
It was a full moon, and I felt even stronger than before, and more attracted to her.
She, clinging tightly to me on the back of the horse, did not help matters as the only thing ringing in my head was Ted’s voice, screaming “Mate.”
