Agnes continued, “Mainly because of this, Ansel talked to my mom today. He told her that I have a boyfriend at the company and even mentioned your name.”
Andrew was quite shocked upon hearing this, and his smile grew wider. He didn’t mind the situation; in fact, he even chuckled. “What did Auntie say?”
However, Agnes looked serious. “Ansel must have said something to my parents because they have a very poor impression of you now.”
Hearing this, Andrew’s smile stiffened slightly, and his heart sank heavily.
“Although I explained to them that we are just colleagues, I’m very worried that my mom won’t believe me because of her personality,” Agnes expressed her concern. “I’m afraid she might come to the company to find you, so…”
Elisa felt inexplicably happy at this point. They weren’t a couple after all, and her tightly wound heart finally relaxed a bit.
Andrew didn’t seem to care about these things. He smiled at Agnes and said, “You don’t need to apologize or worry about it. As long as I can be of use to you, that’s what matters.”
Agnes raised her coffee cup. “Shall I toast you with coffee instead of wine? Thank you for understanding.”
Andrew also raised his cup. “You’re welcome.” The two cups clinked lightly, and they both took a sip of their coffee.
“Bubu,” Andrew called her by this nickname he thought was exclusive, “I’ve listened to you for so long; may I speak now?”
“Of course,” Agnes felt much more relaxed and smiled brightly. “What do you want to say? Even if it’s criticism or blame, I’ll humbly accept it!”
The cafe was quiet and artistic, with classical music playing softly in the background.
The customers who came in were all young couples, dressed fashionably and deeply in love, filling the air with a romantic atmosphere.
“You don’t have a boyfriend, do you?” Andrew asked her.
Agnes shook her head. “But I have someone I like.” Perhaps guessing his thoughts, she refused to give him a chance.
This answer slightly surprised Andrew, but he quickly recovered. “Does he… know?”
He wanted to probe a bit more and learn more about the girl he liked.
Agnes didn’t want to share much about her feelings with him. So she responded with a smile and silence, then picked up her cup and pretended to seriously savor the coffee, not wanting to make him feel awkward.
Andrew understood something from this; it probably wasn’t a normal relationship. Either the person was dead, it was immoral, or it was an unrequited love with too big a gap.
In any case… it wasn’t normal.
“Bubu, I like you,” Andrew confessed directly. “Would you consider being my girlfriend?”
Elisa turned her head sharply upon hearing this from behind the screen. Through the gap in the screen, she saw his nervous yet hopeful face with a faint smile, and her heart sank.
“I won’t consider it,” was Agnes’s reply. “Because I have someone I like.”
“Who… is he?”
“Who he is doesn’t matter,” Agnes’s attitude was clear; she never wavered in matters of the heart. “What’s important is that we can only be friends.”
Being rejected on the spot made Andrew genuinely sad. He had liked this girl for quite some time; it wasn’t just a fleeting interest.
It was a deep-seated affection that had been suppressed for a long time.
But she rejected him so decisively and cleanly.
“Alright, I understand,” Andrew said with a gentle smile. “Don’t worry; I won’t be another Ansel and won’t bother you again unless it’s work-related.”
Andrew took another sip of his coffee and added, “To avoid any awkwardness in future meetings, I’ll take back everything I just said and won’t bring it up again.”
