Lilith’s POV
My memories were a blur, but my sight was worse. For the first few seconds after I opened my eyes, all I saw was hazy white substances floating about.
Gradually, it cleared, and I not only saw clearly, I also remembered all that happened. For how long was I gone? An hour or two, maybe. I wasn’t sure. The sun was high in the sky and the heat of the afternoon filled the room like a stubborn little baby who wouldn’t stop sucking its mother’s breast.
I sat up on the bed, its softness like a cloud, wrapping me in its gentle embrace.
I scanned the room for any signs of Adams or Ronan. A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as I found no one, not even a strand of their hair floated past.
They were probably at a meeting or attending to pack matters. Jealousy crept up my soul as I wished Adams was by my side instead.
“You are being selfish then,” Lex scolded me, making me feel even sadder than I was.
My stomach rumbled, and I got down from the bed, in search of what to eat. I suddenly felt light-headed and was forced to sit back, closing my eyes in pain.
I pushed myself deeper into the bed and swung my legs freely, cupping my head in my palms. My right leg clung onto something, and I was forced to open my eyes to check.
There was a rope, a thick black rope. I traced it backwards to its source and found it attached to a nail. Beside the nail was a handwritten note, beautifully constructed with writing I knew too well to not recognize.
“Ring this if you need me, close your eyes, and make a wish.
I smiled, blushed, and fell back on the bed. I sat up again and traced the rope from where I found the note.
It was longer than I thought, attached to different nails, all the way to the roof, out of the door. I thought of following it, to see where it led to, but decided to try it his way.
So I sat back and rested my lower back on a pillow, rang the bell, and closed my eyes. “I wish to see Adams,” I whispered.
“Bang!” The sound came from the door.
I became elated and smiled hard, as I heard footsteps. Joy moved in my body like a river, flowing freely undisturbed.
My nose picked a strange scent and the joy which I felt earlier crashed… much worse than a fragile vase, dropping on a hard floor.
My ears picked up more footsteps and my eyes shot open in panic. Before me were six muscular men, all clothed in white trousers and white unbuttoned shirts.
Six women also rushed in, dressed in white flowing gowns. In their hands were different materials ranging from soap, steaming towels, scented oils, combs and one lady in particular who was singing a song in a language I didn’t understand.
“What is going on?” I asked, totally confused. If it were just the men, I would have assumed they were there to abduct me. Seeing the women too added a level of curiosity to my already curious self.
“We are here on the request of the Alpha king to prepare you, my queen, while these men are here to escort us safely to the king,” one of the women, slightly bigger than the others spoke.
She was probably their leader as she didn’t carry anything in her hands.
“Prepare me for what? Escort me to where? Where is Adams? And what’s with the dress code? Who are you guys?” I asked each question without pausing, almost losing my temper.
Yet, the woman before me didn’t react. Rather, she smiled and nodded to each question like an attentive student, taking assignments home.
I’ll answer your questions one after the other, my queen. First, you need a bath.
She came close to me and stretched her hand. “Take my hand, my queen, I’ll bathe you.”
The thought of anyone other than myself bathing me made my intestines cringe. The pit in my stomach deepened, and my heart skipped multiple beats in a progressive, rhythmic flow.
Even Adams had not seen what I looked down there, so why should I let some random stranger do so?
“No!” I replied firmly, shaking my head. “I can bathe myself and I won’t leave this spot till I know what is happening.”
She smiled, confusing me the more. “The alpha predicted you would do this, so he made me, and everyone here, sign a death contract.”
“A death contract? For what?”
“If, for any reason, we fail to comply with his direct orders, his wolf would have our head,” she replied, her smile disappearing for a while, before appearing, like it never left.
“And by direct others you mean…”
“Bathing you, making you smell nice, making you look beautiful, adorn your hair and bless it with the best scented oils in the pack, and protect you till you get to your final destination. Also,” her smile disappeared again. “I’m sure you are merciful and gracious my queen. You wouldn’t want to have the blood of twelve people on your hands, would you?”
Adams knew I wouldn’t allow any to bathe me so he sent these people to take care and pamper me. It was thrilling yet dreadful at the same time. Does that mean this mysterious smiling woman before me would put her hands into me, all in the name of making me clean?
“I know why you are resisting my queen, you think I’ll bathe you. Actually, I wouldn’t. My job there is to make sure you get out of the shower cleaner than ever. We can do it your way as long as I’m with you.”
Hearing her speak like this gave me joy and I stood up, as we both walked into the bathroom.
I took my bath more than five times, each time longer than the last. The lady before me must have had a miserable past as she barked orders at me like I was a slave. “I am sorry, but that’s the way it has to be. Do it again!”
After successfully bathing, for the fifth time, she certified me clean and applied every other beauty product on me. Soon we were done, and we proceeded to meet my sweetheart, outside the mansion.
“Can you provide answers to my questions now?” I demanded from the woman, who had a smile on her face just like before.
“Gladly my queen. We are a group of people whose job is to serve royalties for a paid price. We are taking you to the Alpha, and he is waiting for you. You might be wondering why? I wish I could say, but we aren’t allowed to do so. Right there…” she pointed in a particular direction. “… He is waiting for you.
Before me was a beautiful garden, one I had never seen since I got into the mansion. It had bright flowers which made the place shine, it was like paradise.
Adams stood in the middle of the garden. His hair was damp, like he had just had his bath. The water trickled down his face to his chest. And his chest it was partly opened, and I gasped at how handsome he looked.
He got closer and met me halfway to the garden. His grip was firm, and he called my name, Lilith.
My name sounded strange in my ears. It suddenly began to echo, getting louder and louder. Suddenly, Adams changed into his wolf and I started to run away from him.
The beautiful garden transformed into the dining room and the woman who led me there suddenly turned to Ronan.
“Lilith… Lilith…” I heard my name repeatedly as his wolf tried to catch me, but I dodged its attack.
“Lilith!” I heard my name one final time and my eyes flung open to see Adams standing before me.
All my body was covered in sweat, and I was still on the bed, in our room and there was no bell or sweet note. Just he and Ronan, staring at me like they had seen a ghost.
“What just happened? I asked, confused.
“You had a terrible dream, but you are fine now,” Adams replied.
“What time is it? I asked.
“It’s seven pm,” Ronan replied from behind Adams.
I gasped as it dawned on me, I had passed out all day.
