“My mother loved to draw. I heard that my grandmother nurtured her love of the arts since she was young, and hence she had good skills.”
Seeing that he kept turning around to look at the drawing on the backseat, Rosiley mentioned her mother voluntarily.
“The painting is beautiful,” Corey said, complimenting her sincerely.
“It’s indeed beautiful, but this is the only painting left.” At this juncture, Rosiley looked regretful.
“Why?” Corey was curious. since her mother loved painting, she should have numerous artworks.
“They were burnt,” Rosiley responded casually. “My mother was frail and weak then. She probably knew she was dying and wanted to burn the paintings so she could take them to heaven with her.”
Corey shook his head in disapproval. “Such a tough character.”
Rosiley smiled but didn’t continue the topic.
She turned to look at the painting as her thoughts drifted away.
She had only been five years old when her mother had painted this painting.
Her mother had hugged her and lifted her onto her legs. As she drew, she had told her how beautiful Jiangnan really was, and how she must visit there when she grew up.
Every time her mother had talked about Jiangnan, her eyes lit up, full of longing for that place.
Unfortunately, her mother had passed away before she could take her to Jiangnan.
Having not heard her voice in a long while, Corey turned to look at her. He saw the sadness on her face and frowned. “Did I remind my sister-in-law of her sad past?”
If that were so, he needed to tell a joke to make his sister-in-law happy.
Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.
Rosiley was brought out of her memories and back to reality. She saw Corey hang up when he saw the caller ID, not picking it up at all.
She raised her brows but didn’t ask.
However, when he was about to throw his phone back to the container in between the car seats, the phone rang again.
This time, Rosiley saw the caller ID.
The Uncute Magical Girl.
Raising her brows, she asked suspiciously, “Is it from Xiaoxiao?”
Corey was a little embarrassed because he knew that she had seen the caller ID, ‘The Uncute Magical Girl’.
That was indeed Ying Xiaoxiao.
As Ying Xiaoxiao was his sister-in-law’s good friend, she might consider him to be rude by saving that as her friend’s caller ID.
As if she had read his mind, Rosiley smiled and said, “That is quite a cute name. Xiaoxiao is indeed uncute.”
Corey smiled dryly. “It’s alright. It’s alright.”
The phone was only silent for a few seconds before it rang again.
Rosiley couldn’t help but smile. “If you don’t pick up the call, Xiaoxiao will call you until you turn off your phone.”
Corey said nonchalantly, “Let her call. She will give up if I ignore her.”
“You don’t know Xiaoxiao well enough. She will not give up so easily. Furthermore, if you keep ignoring her, she will seek revenge in terrifying ways.”
“Really? She is that perverted?”
Rosiley spread her hands. “It is true. Her personality is as such.”
“Seek her revenge in more terrifying ways? With Ying Xiaoxiao’s personality, that seems possible.”
Corey decided to answer the call. After all, he worked in close proximity with Ying Xiaoxiao and he didn’t want to live in fear every day.
Hence, when the phone rang again, he picked it up without hesitation.
“Hello, Miss Ying, are you alright?”
“No, not at all, why didn’t you pick up my calls?”
