Then, a realization hit Zane. His eyes widened as he turned to Dave. “Mr. Evans, don’t tell me… You’re involved with another woman, and Miss Scott found out? Is this about your time with Ms. Larson earlier?”
“Shut up!” Dave shouted at Zane, then slumped back in his seat.
He pulled out his phone and saw several missed calls from Bianca. Dave rubbed his forehead and wondered if Bianca was with Blake to get back at him.
But why wouldn’t she give him a chance to explain? Why did she have to kiss Blake?
The thought of that scene filled Dave with a growing rage, leaving him feeling agitated and disturbed.
After parking the car, Zane looked at Dave. Just as he was about to mention their arrival, he noticed blood on Dave’s left hand.
“Mr. Evans, is there something wrong with your hand?” Zane asked in alarm.
Dave glanced at his hand and saw the dried blood. He shrugged and said, “Get someone to wrap this up. I think it’s fractured.”
“What?” Zane’s eyes widened in shock. “Who did this to you?”
“Stay out of what doesn’t concern you,” Dave replied, rolling his eyes slightly, not wanting to admit he had hurt himself by punching a wall in frustration.
Zane pursed his lips, letting his imagination run wild. Had his boss been caught with Skylar and confronted by Bianca?
The thought filled him with a mix of concern and curiosity.
Meanwhile, Bianca got home and found no sign of Dave, who hadn’t been there for several days.
‘Was he still with that other woman? Why wasn’t he answering her calls? Had he fallen for someone else and was planning to leave her?’ Bianca’s mind was racing with all these thoughts.
She turned on every light in the house but still felt a chilling emptiness around her.
‘Was everything in the past fake? Was his promise fake, too? Were all men this heartless? Had she been betrayed again, just like before?’ Still, deep down, Bianca didn’t want to believe Dave could betray her.
Feeling overwhelmed and heartbroken, she collapsed onto the sofa, tears streaming down her face.
With tears in her eyes, Bianca fell asleep.
After what felt like forever, she felt herself being lifted gently.
Bianca opened her eyes in a daze and murmured, “Dave?”
But then she noticed a strong smell of alcohol.
“Hmm,” Dave mumbled softly as he gently laid Bianca down on the big bed.
He turned on the lamp beside the bed.
Bianca looked up at the man standing over her. He was wearing a white shirt, and his tie was hanging loosely across his chest.
His cheeks were red, and his dark eyes held a mix of confused emotions.
Suddenly realizing where she was, Bianca sat up and fixed her eyes on Dave. “How much did you drink?”
She had never seen him so drunk; his steps were a bit wobbly.
Dave shrugged off his tie and tossed it aside. He staggered toward her, resting one knee on the edge of the bed and trapping her with his arms.
Bianca’s eyes filled with hurt as she looked up at him, enduring the strong smell of alcohol without flinching.
“Aren’t you going to explain?” Her voice shook slightly, tears welling in her eyes as she tried to hold back her emotions.
Dave knew exactly what she meant.
“Yes,” he replied briefly.
Bianca stared at him and said, “Just tell me. I’m listening.”
Dave’s lips tightened as he leaned closer, the smell of alcohol mixing with his natural scent.
“She’s my distant cousin, and she’s close to my Uncle Rupert. You know my uncles hate me. If they found out about us, they’d cause trouble with Grandpa and try to drive us apart. I need to keep our relationship around her to avoid any drama with my uncle.” His voice was soft but shaky.
Bianca furrowed her brow in doubt. “Is that really the truth?”
The room was filled with a warm glow from the bedside lamp.
Dave’s eyes, reflecting the light, looked solemn as he stared down at her and nodded.
Biting her lip, Bianca’s voice trembled. “But… how long can we keep doing this?”
Dave’s eyes became serious. He gently brushed her silky hair and murmured, “I’ll find a way to handle this. I’ll get Grandpa to accept you, and then I’ll tell him everything about us.”
Bianca looked intently at him, searching his eyes for any hint of truth.
He didn’t look away, but he stared back at her softly. After a long moment, Bianca was the first to break eye contact.
She gently touched his back. “I’m choosing to trust you again. But if you lie to me once more, I won’t hesitate to leave.”
Dave’s expression grew serious as he looked at her, and his eyes turned cold. “I’ve been clear about my feelings. Now it’s your turn. What’s going on between you and Blake?”
“Me and Blake?” Surprise crossed Bianca’s face before she recalled the kiss from earlier that day. It was brief, but…
“You… you saw that?” Panic flickered in Bianca’s eyes.
Even though she wasn’t at fault, it was hard to explain away the situation.
“Yes, I saw it,” Dave said through clenched teeth, his fingers tracing her lips. “I saw him holding you and you kissing him back.”
As he spoke, his grip on her face tightened. Veins were bulging on his forehead, and his expression was fierce. “Bianca, do you think he’s better than me? Is this your way of getting back at me? Don’t you know there’s nothing more painful for a man than being betrayed by his woman? Do you think I love you so much that I’ll forgive you no matter what you do?”
Bianca’s eyes widened in shock. She realized that the drunken man before her wasn’t in his right mind, and he was enraged by what happened earlier.
She grabbed Dave’s wrist and noticed his hand was wrapped in gauze. The sweat on his forehead showed he was trying hard to endure the pain.
Worried, Bianca exclaimed, “Why is your hand injured? Please, let go. Don’t hurt yourself more.”
“Just tell me what you really think of me. What am I to you?”
Dave, who usually doesn’t drink much, felt really down today. He saw his girlfriend kissing another man, and it hurt him deeply.
After finally finding someone he cared about, it felt like he was alone again.
He was so heartbroken that he didn’t even realize his hand was hurting.
“Will you believe me if I say I didn’t mean to do it?” Bianca asked, her eyes cold as she looked at Dave.
