Alex
When I arrived at the office early in the morning, Von greeted me with bad news. Thanks to my wife, I always have such wonderful nights, and someone from the office just has to ruin them. Lately, Richard has been the one causing me frustration.
“It’s confirmed Mr. Richard bought more shares again.” I took a deep breath because, just earlier, Von had reported that some shareholders had agreed to sell part of their shares in the company.
“You know what to do. Make sure he doesn’t catch wind of it.”
“Yes, sir.” He placed the folder containing his report before leaving my office. I looked at it and couldn’t help but grin at what I read. It seems like he’s planning to get controlling shares. But that’s never going to happen because I’m ready for him. He’s fallen into my trap, and thanks to those loyal to Dad, I can say my plan succeeded.
Now, I just need to wait for Richard to call a meeting. If whoever is backing him shows up, they’re confident, but if they don’t, they’re still cautious about their moves. Either way, they’re getting nothing and wasting their time, energy, and money.
This isn’t just my fight. It’s a fight for me and my wife since the company doesn’t only belong to me but also to Serene because she’s my wife, especially if the person behind Richard is Juancho.
I continued working and temporarily set aside the impending trouble Richard would bring. Even while preparing for him, I still had work to do.
“Hi,” Serene greeted as she walked into my office. I was surprised because she doesn’t usually come here.
“Honey,” I greeted, standing up to welcome her with a warm kiss. “What brought you here? Aren’t you busy with Serendipity?”
I guided her to the receiving area, and we sat down together. We hadn’t even settled in when Von rushed in.
“Sir!” he exclaimed as he opened the door. My wife and I both turned to look at him. “Oh, she’s already here.” I raised an eyebrow at his comment, prompting him to continue.
“The security said Ma’am Serene arrived, so I was going to inform you, but she beat me to it.”
“Okay, you can leave now,” I said casually since he was disturbing us.
“Alright, sir.” He left and closed the door, and I turned back to my beautiful wife sitting next to me.
“Busy?” Serene asked.
“Not if you’re here.” She laughed at what I said before leaning back. I just watched her every move, waiting for her to explain why she came. She’s my wife, so she’s always welcome here, but she’s not the type to visit me at work.
She was now staring back at me, observing me, too. “What’s really going on, honey?” I asked, starting to feel uneasy. Her behavior wasn’t her usual self. She raised her hand, and I took it.
“I don’t know what’s going on with me either.” I pondered her words. “I just felt like seeing you. You know, I was feeling uneasy.”
I took a deep breath while gently rubbing her hand with my thumb, smiled, and spoke. “How often do I need to tell you you have nothing to worry about me? I can care for myself and protect Mom and Dad, so calm down.”
“I’ve never been like this, Alex. What did you do to me?” she asked, pouting her lips. Damn! I never knew she had this side. She looks childish but sexy.
I moved closer to her as she sat facing me. “Maybe because you’re starting to realize how much you love me, that’s why you’re getting cheesy.” She laughed at what I said as if she couldn’t believe it.
“Ah, whatever. I just wanted to see you, so I came here.”
“Who’s with you?” I asked worriedly, concerned that someone might kidnap her again if she had no company.
“No one.”
“What?” I exclaimed. “Honey!”
“You know I gave some tasks to Enzo and Princess. Besides, I can handle myself.”
“Did Patt let you?”
“He couldn’t do anything.” Hearing that, I grabbed my phone to call Patt. I knew he wouldn’t let my wife leave without someone accompanying her, so why did he let it happen now?
“Patt is busy, don’t bother him.” She took my phone and placed it on the center table.
“Honey, please, don’t go out alone. You know our enemy has started to make a move.”
She smiled at me before answering, “I’m sleepy; let me sleep first.” With that, she laid down, using my lap as her pillow. I shook my head at what she did. I stroked her hair, unable to stop smiling.
Here she was, sleeping peacefully on my lap. She looked so calm as if she had no problems. Why does my wife suddenly seem like an angel who usually fights like Wonder Woman? I didn’t go back to work; I just stayed seated. If I stood up, I might wake her.
I reached for my phone and called Von once Serene was sound asleep. “Sir?” my assistant asked as he entered, and I signaled for him to be quiet. His eyes scanned the room until he saw my wife sleeping on my lap.
“Please get my laptop. I need to check something, but I can’t stand up.” He smiled, understanding what I meant, and walked to my desk to get what I requested.
“Thank you. You can go back to work.” He left the office with a smile, and I returned to work.
I moved slowly, ensuring I did not disturb Serene, who seemed tired based on how quickly she fell asleep. I continued working until she finally woke up.
“Hi, is it morning already?” she asked, making me laugh. I bent down to kiss her on the forehead. Judging by her refreshed look, she seemed to have slept well and was fully recharged.
“I thought we’d spend the night here.” Her eyes widened when I said that, and she glanced at her wristwatch.
“Shit! I overslept!” she exclaimed, quickly standing up, which made her dizzy. She almost fell if I hadn’t caught her after I immediately put down the laptop beside me.
“Are you alright, honey?” I asked worriedly, and she nodded. But before she could recover, she collapsed in my arms, losing consciousness.
