A week after the wedding, Hunter dialed Portia’s number. When it was connected he said, “Sweetheart, I am taking you out for dinner tonight.” Portia was overjoyed.
She wore a knee-high white dress and a blue diamond necklace with matching earrings. It was a greeting gift from her boyfriend’s grandfather. She wanted to be beautiful for her beloved Hunter.
At 6 pm, Hunter showed up in a black suit and red tie at Portia’s apartment. He knocked on the door. Wayne opened the door smiling and said, “Good evening, Hunter. I am going to fetch Portia.” Then he went to his sister’s bedroom.
A few minutes later, Portia walked to Hunter smiling from ear to ear. She took Hunter’s breath away. She was stunning. Hunter embraced her and said, “You are so beautiful, Sweetheart.”
Portia smiled and replied, “You are not bad yourself, my love. Let’s go.” Then they walked out of the apartment to the car. Hunter opened the passenger door and Portia got into the car smiling.
Hunter got into the car, took his girlfriend into his arms, and kissed her for a long time. Then he drove his car to His Grace Hotel. They were escorted to their private room.
A few minutes later, Portia’s favourite food was served. She smiled sweetly at her boyfriend and thanked him. The food was so delicious.
Portia was so happy, she loved Hunter deeply. She thought he was her soulmate. She was grinning from ear to ear.
After dinner, Hunter looked at Portia with sadness in his eyes and said, “Portia, when you confessed to me, I was so happy. I thought we would grow old together, but I was wrong.
I didn’t know that I was still yearning for my ex-girlfriend until she approached me and told me that she wanted me back. I decided to give her a second chance. You are such a gentle soul, Portia, but Marcia owns my heart.
I am sorry to break your heart. I hope you will find in your heart to forgive me.” Tears streamed down Portia’s face. She felt as if her heart was cut by a blunt knife.
When they were at His Goodness Resort, they were inseparable. She thought Hunter would be proposing to her today. He gave her false hope.
Hunter’s heart ached when he saw his sweetheart crying. He wanted to take her in his arms and comfort her, but he restrained himself.
Portia wiped the tears and looked at Hunter with a faint smile on her face, “Thank you for loving me even though it was a short period. Loving you was the best thing that ever happened to me. I wish you nothing but happiness with Miss Fox.”
Then she took off the blue diamond necklace with a matching pair of earrings and handed it to Hunter. She smiled with tears in her eyes and said, “This jewel belongs to Miss Fox now. Please take me home, Hunter.”
Then she stood up, took her handbag, and walked towards the door. Hunter hastened his pace and grabbed her wrist. He looked at her with pleading eyes and asked, “Can we at least be friends?”
Portia shook her head and replied, “I don’t think it would be a good idea for us to be friends immediately after we break up. Let’s have a clean break.” Hunter nodded his head and asked, “May I hug you for the last time?”
Portia nodded her head, and then Hunter hugged her for a long time, apologizing for breaking her heart. Then they walked out of the private room to the parking lot.
Hunter took Portia to her apartment. He took her in his arms and kissed her, then he got in his car and drove away. Portia whispered, “Goodbye, my love.” Then she walked to her apartment with a heavy heart.
Wayne was in the living room watching soccer. He looked at his sister and asked, “How was your date?” Tears streamed down Portia’s face and replied, “Hunter dumped me, big brother. His ex-girlfriend wants him back.”
Wayne’s heart ached for his baby sister. He took her in his arms and comforted her. Portia wiped her tears and said, “I am going back to the military base, big brother. There is nothing left for me here.”
His brother was taken aback and asked, “When are you leaving, sis?” Portia smiled and replied, “I am going tomorrow morning, big brother. It will be too painful to see Hunter marrying his beloved girlfriend in front of me.”
Wayne hugged his sister and said, “Don’t worry about your traveling arrangements. I will book the first flight for you and I will ask Atlas to fetch you from the airport.
Atlas Roberts was Portia’s best friend and her partner in the army. The Roberts family and the Butler family were neighbours.
Portia thanked her brother, then she went to her bedroom and started packing her clothes into the suitcases. She decided not to disturb Avery with her sad news during her honeymoon.
She took a quick shower, then she wore her pajamas. She sat on her bed, then she took her phone and blocked Hunter’s phone number. She also deleted their conversation on social media.
At 5 am, Wayne took his sister to King Shaka International Airport. At the boarding gate, Wayne hugged his sister tightly and said, “You are such a strong woman, sis, and I am proud of you.
Hunter will regret dumping you, baby sis. People always realize what they had when it is gone, but it will be too late to regret it.”
Portia smiled at her brother and said, “I don’t want him to regret it, big brother. I wish him all the best with Miss Fox. Take care, big brother. I love you so much.” Then she handed her flight ticket to the security. She waved to her brother, then she disappeared.
Wayne felt hatred towards Hunter for leading his sister on. Portia had high hopes for their future. Unbeknownst to her, she was just warming up Miss Fox’s seat.
At Hunter’s mansion, he was sitting on the bed second-guessing himself. There was a small voice in his heart telling him that he had made a huge mistake by breaking Portia’s heart.
However, he ignored that small voice and told himself that Marcia was his soulmate.
Was Marcia really his soulmate? Didn’t she say she was unhappy in their relationship? What made Marcia change her mind about Hunter? Time will tell.
