Agnes was afraid of his age, his marital status, and most of all, that her feelings for him would be crushed by reality. During that time, she was filled with contradictions. She liked him and wanted to see him, but she never dared to speak up. She also feared that if she did speak up and he rejected her, they couldn’t even remain friends. The heavy weight of her emotions made it hard for her to let go.
She remembered the extreme comfort she felt when chatting with him; his gentle and elegant demeanor, his polite and gentlemanly manner, his erudition, and his insightful analysis of the entire painting, sometimes incorporating elements of the era. “Agnes, this is just a dream, a void dream,” Summer could feel her sister’s dejection and held her shoulders gently to comfort her, “You need to step out of this dream to find happiness.”
Agnes came back to reality and looked up with a smile, explaining, “I’m not really lost in the dream. I’m still striving to improve myself and am passionate about my work and life, right?” But she couldn’t hide the regret in her heart; she just didn’t want her sister to worry.
Her sister smiled again and said, “I just… happened to bring up this topic. I wanted to be honest with you. I like this kind of man. His capabilities surpass mine; he has a broader vision and foresight. He shines but his light isn’t blinding. He is excellent but doesn’t carry a sense of superiority.”
“Mm,” Summer nodded, “Such a man might just be an online persona; you can’t get close enough in reality. It’s getting late; should we sleep now? We have work tomorrow.”
“Okay.” Her little cat certainly wouldn’t be so elusive.
Agnes had a feeling that this ‘little cat’ must be truly exceptional.
The sisters lay down on the large soft bed under the same blanket. The room was still; lights gradually turned off one by one… Smart homes are quite nice.
The next morning.
Spencer got up early and busied himself in the kitchen preparing breakfast for the sisters.
Today was probably one of the happiest days of his life; he had proposed successfully last night and was finally starting his own little family.
Spencer’s cooking skills were impressive, influenced by growing up independently in his original family home.
At this moment, he had already baked the bread to perfection; it was very soft with an enticing glossy surface, and its aroma was very appetizing.
Summer and Agnes had set an alarm despite the comfortable bed; they didn’t oversleep.
Spencer was thoughtful; not only had he prepared pajamas last night but also everyday clothes for them, and his taste was quite good.
Agnes wore a white dress while Summer wore a purple suit dress. Both styles suited the sisters well, and they looked very beautiful after dressing up.
Walking down the stairs, the sisters could smell the strong aroma of breakfast.
“Good morning.”
Spencer, who had prepared breakfast, waited for them in the living room. His deep eyes sparkled with laughter as he looked forward to seeing them.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning, brother-in-law!” Agnes was in high spirits, her voice as pleasant as silver bells.
Spencer gently told them, “Breakfast is ready; this way please.”
They followed him towards the dining room.
The breakfast was lavish with milk, toasted bread, egg custard… Just like the day she woke up early to make porridge for him, he too had risen early today.
“Did you make all this?” Summer asked incredulously looking at his proud smile since there were no servants around.
“Yes!” Spencer’s smile brightened further. “Try it out. If you like it, I’ll take care of breakfast from now on!”
Summer couldn’t help but laugh at his joke as she picked up a spoonful of porridge and felt an overwhelming sense of happiness.
