The eyes of the three young people suddenly lit up with incredulous excitement as they looked at her. “Mom blesses you,” Mrs. Campell said with a heartfelt smile. “Now it depends on whether Summer is willing.”
Especially Spencer, who felt a surge of excitement as if he had been given permission and saw a glimmer of hope. Agnes finally breathed a sigh of relief. With their mother’s approval, the matter was practically settled.
“Summer!” Spencer called out joyfully, holding the ring box in one hand and her hand in the other. He confessed his love again with excitement, “I will treat you well for the rest of my life and never let you down! Will you give me this chance?”
Summer’s eyes were already filled with tears as she met his gaze, a gentle expression in her eyes. But she did not agree immediately; instead, she looked up at her parents again, her nose tingling with emotion. “Since mom and dad agree, I will say yes.”
Mrs. Campell nodded in satisfaction, and Mr. Campell put his arm around Mrs. Campell’s shoulders. Both elders were smiling, their defenses completely breached by Spencer.
Agnes realized what was happening and quickly took out her phone, stepping back to start recording. “Please propose again! I want to capture this historic moment!”
“Miss Summer, will you marry me?” Spencer asked with a gentle smile, gazing at her affectionately, his voice even louder than before.
The girl smiled, “Of course I will.” Her voice was as soft and beautiful as night mist.
Spencer was overjoyed. He carefully took the ring out of the small box and solemnly placed it on her finger. Those few seconds felt like slow motion in a movie, making all past sorrows seem insignificant.
The ring was beautiful, custom-made and perfectly sized, showing Spencer’s thoughtfulness. Agnes bent slightly with her phone to record the entire scene. “Wonderful! The proposal is successful! Now we can start planning the wedding!”
Summer pulled Spencer up, and Mr. Campell happily said, “Come on, let’s eat first! Spencer, have another drink! Welcome to our family!”
“Thank you, Dad!” Spencer immediately changed his address for him and happily led Summer to the dining table, not forgetting to glance back. “Bubu, come eat!”
“Coming!” Agnes cheerfully put away her phone. “Mom, you sit down; I’ll get the utensils!”
Mrs. Campell sat back down in her chair.
Soon, the family gathered around the dining table under warm yellow lights, creating a harmonious scene.
“Dad, Mom,” Spencer smoothly addressed them like an actor changing roles effortlessly. “What kind of wedding do you envision? You have experience; please give us some advice.”
He then raised his glass to lightly clink it with Mr. Campell’s. “Dad, here’s to you.” He drank like they were close friends.
“You have a sensitive stomach; drink less,” Summer advised with a frown as she glanced at the eye-catching ring on her finger.
“I know, I know; today is special. I’m happy,” Spencer reassured her softly while putting his arm around her shoulder. “Let’s make Dad happy today; I promise not to drink in the future. I’ve heard this is Dad’s favorite wine.”
“As for the wedding, follow your hearts,” Mrs. Campell suddenly became very open-minded. “You young people have your preferences; we elders are just here to participate.”
“What about the bride price? Do you have any requirements?” Spencer asked directly but clearly.
Mrs. Campell shook her head and smiled at him. “You can decide that among yourselves; I’m not selling my daughter. Since I’m willing to entrust my daughter to you, I just hope you will treat her well.”
