Nebraska had decided many things in the moments that she could take for herself to think about. First, she couldn’t tell her husband about the creature in her womb yet. She would know that he would be overjoyed but that would only make his worries more. As queen and her half, her job was to take the weight off her shoulders, not put more.
Hades had suffered the loss of several attempts of cubs, if she told him, at first he would not let her participate in the coming war and that was a luxury that they could not afford or they would not have given her their bloods. Second, he would be thinking all the time that his puppy might die and she did not want to see him in anguish. Now was a defining moment. All energies and focused minds were needed. The alpha had to lead many wolves and she could not be a burden.
She nuzzled her stomach lovingly and smiled. At least she was glad that she would be the one who could give him what he longed for most. Even though he had adopted her puppies and cared for them and loved them, she couldn’t complain about that. Nothing was compared to his own offspring. She was also aware that with the blood inside her she would be able to give birth without problems and could survive more effectively.
The other thing she had decided was that tonight she would put an end to everything. The moon would soon be high and full in the black sky. The wolves were stronger with it in that possition and she would witness perhaps the greatest slaughter after the Great War where the packs were finally created. Liam had been a part of her life since she was just a kid. She never imagined that he would be the one to stab her in the back and destroy the most important people in her life. Tonight she had sworn that she would put an end to her past and start over from scratch, with her new pack, her new life, her new family.
He walked looking for Hades. He heard that he was outside and there were various murmurs around him. As she left the mansion, she realized that he was in front of the male wolves of the pack. There were all those who were going to fight that night. Behind them were others she hadn’t seen. It was to be part of the army of Layan, Asule and the twin alphas. She understood that despite being there they had not left the pack alone, but the amount they had brought was considerable and necessary.
With that number, Nebraska knew that the situation would be extremely dangerous. Hades spoke giving indications of what the organization would be like and everyone listened carefully.
-We are not aware of the number of wolves that will attack our lands,- she heard him say.
She approached and when he stopped for a moment to see her approach, she answered him.
-2000 wolves- she stood by his side -That is the number that will attack, they will be here a little less than an hour. They move fast even though the state of many is not the best-
He heard him growl. Hades’s pack was one of the largest and had grown after the merger, but that didn’t mean that the defense force was immense. There were many cubs and wolves, and they would not be in the battle so he could only count on a fraction, although he was strong.
With all the wolves they had gathered they were almost even. So victory would be for the one who kills faster.
Nebraska felt several glances on her and knew it was from the change in appearance. Her hair had been tied back but that it grew overnight was not normal, and she also knew that her presence was more imposing than before.
A howl was heard from afar. They were getting closer and the alphas began to strategically move the wolves forward into the forest clearing in front of the pack entrances. It was a flat area where you could only attack from the front. It was the best terrain to fight against an enemy as treacherous as Liam.
Layan approached Nebraska and smelled the strong scent of Hades coming from her and knew that he had reaffirmed his dominance over the omega, as well as the faint essence of her past zeal. He didn’t say anything; it should be part of that entire process. But there was also a small essence, very weak that he could not define but that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end and he stared at her.
Nebraska took her hand.
-Beware-
He answered her with a smile.
-Don’t worry, someone like him is no match for me or Hades-
That was something to check. The wolf butted his knuckles with his old friend Saisen and walked behind Celesia towards the first line of defense.
Hades made sure that she was in a suitable position so that she could escape in any case. Her father would take care of her along with Leoxi, Layan’s beta who had recently arrived, and at least twenty other wolves from all the packs. He approached his wife and hugged her.
-Don’t do anything crazy,- he said against her ear. -If the situation gets tense, my father will get you out of here- Do not put up resistance, it is all I ask of you. If something happens to me, you have to take care of the herd-
-Nothing will happen to you- she hugged him back.
When he released her she put a hand on his chest and closed her eyes.
-This is the only thing I can give you before you go-
Hades felt an embracing heat in his chest that drifted into his mind and it was as if everything around him expanded.
– Can you hear it?- Nebraska’s voice echoed in his head, as he lowered his face he realized that she was looking at him with her golden eyes.
-This is ..- he replied in the same way.
– A way that you can communicate with everyone through me. I will be the bridge. You can control them all easier –
Hades widened his eyes in surprise as to how far his wolf’s power had spread. He looked at his father.
– So ?
– That sounds strange- Saisen touched his temple not being used to the voices in his mind in the current aspect – Do not talk much like this to your mother, you know she does not like that they are walking in her mind –
The alpha returned his attention to his wife and kissed her forehead.
-Thank you, this will help me a lot-
-Be careful, don’t let Liam bite you,- she said but inside she knew that the one who would bury its fangs in his neck would be her.
Hades separated from her side and anguish consumed her, the more she tried to stay calm. She stood his ground and closed her eyes
-What are you doing?- Saisen was alert to her side when the scent of the enemies became more powerful.
-I shift my mind around the whole pack and put up a control barrier. It is the reverse effect of dominating the mind. I could do it with only one wolf, but now my capacity has increased considerably- she breathed deeply- In this way, Liam will not be able to subdue any wolf on our side under his control-
Saisen nodded shaking his head.
-And if something happens to you and that barrier is broken-
She took a few seconds to respond concentrating, beginning to weave the threads between each of the individuals.
-With Liam’s power he could destroy anyone’s conscience quickly. Even Layan and Hades are no strangers to that. Nothing can happen to me, otherwise we would be losing without him making an effort-
-Nebraska, you really are a wolf to fear-
She smiled at him.
-I’m just a wolf who protects her things-
