Ulric’s slender fingers paused for a moment before he replied.
[Okay, I’ll pick you up when I return tomorrow.]
Shortly after putting down his phone, the doctor emerged from the emergency room. Upon seeing Ulric, his expression turned grave.
“Mr. Walters, the patient’s condition is very unusual. Once she falls into this deep coma, she loses all will to survive. It must have been triggered by some kind of shock. I reviewed her medical records, she has severe depression, which is not to be taken lightly!”
“Yes, I understand,” Ulric replied, fully aware of the situation. “How is my mother now?”
“She is temporarily out of life-threatening danger. We’ll need to monitor her data, and if stable, she’ll be moved to a ward.”
Hearing this, Ulric breathed a slight sigh of relief.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
“Saving lives is our duty, Mr. Walters. Please don’t mention it,” the doctor said with a smile. As he was about to leave, he turned back to emphasize, “Please avoid any further stress for her. Try to go along with her thoughts and remember she has a serious condition.”
After all, doctors aren’t magicians, it’s hard to say if they can save her this time or the next.
“Understood.”
Watching the doctor leave, Ulric raised his hand to rub his forehead.
On his phone, Cedric had already made several calls that went unanswered, indicating an urgent matter.
But given the current situation, how could he leave the country tomorrow?
Finding a relatively quiet place, Ulric returned the call. Cedric seemed to have anticipated some sudden issue on this end. “Mr. Walters, is there any change in your schedule for tomorrow?”
“I’ll give you an answer tonight.”
“Alright.” Cedric knew that if Mr. Walters could manage, he would never delay work. If he couldn’t break away, it meant something significant had occurred. No matter how urgent things were on Cedric’s side, Ulric would first handle his immediate concerns.
There was no need for Cedric to emphasize priorities to Mr. Walters.
After hanging up, Audrey was finally wheeled out of the emergency room.
Not long after being moved to a ward, she finally opened her eyes but remained in a dazed state, as if her body had awakened but her consciousness had not.
Ulric’s tall figure stood by the bed, holding his mother’s hand. “Mom, do you recognize me?”
Hearing his voice, Audrey slowly turned her head and nodded after a long pause. “Ulric… marry Sirena.”
“…”
As expected, the first thing she mentioned was still this issue.
“Marry her,” Audrey insisted. Despite her slurred speech, she kept repeating those two words.
Ulric’s thin lips moved as he instinctively wanted to refuse, but recalling the doctor’s advice, he could only frown and remain silent.
Sensing her son’s hesitation, Audrey seemed to understand something.
“You… you’ve fallen for that… cleaner?”
“Mom, you just got out of the emergency room. Please rest well. I’ll call Dad and have him come back as soon as possible to take care of you.”
“No, I don’t want that.”
“Then you should go back to Nova Zealandia to recuperate. The business here is very busy now, I’m afraid I won’t have time to take care of you.”
Audrey moved her lips and tightly grasped her son’s hand. “You want me to leave so you can marry someone else?”
“The doctor said you need to relax and rest. Let us handle these matters ourselves.”
“Anything else is fine, I only ask that Sirena marries into the Walters family.” Audrey stared at her son without blinking. “I will never accept that cleaner.”
