Chapter 243: She Used Him

Jaquan didn’t rush to sit down. Today, he wore a light brown coat and leaned against the table with a dashing demeanor.
“You called me away from business just for a meal?”
Callie was no longer afraid of him. She looked up and forced a smile. “You’ve used me so many times, haven’t you?”
Jaquan snorted softly, pulled out a chair, and sat down, playing with a high-quality string of prayer beads in his hand.
“The business I was discussing just now can help close a nine-figure deal. You’d better have something more important to talk about.”
Callie took a sip of red wine and smiled in the flickering candlelight. “Jaquan, do you like me even a little bit?”
A subtle emotion flashed in his eyes but quickly disappeared. He remained nonchalant. “Didn’t I say? I’ve always liked you. What, have you decided to divorce Nelson?”
“What if I don’t?” Callie gathered her courage and said recklessly, “I mean, if I don’t divorce him, would you still want me?”
Jaquan stopped playing with the prayer beads. His gaze deepened. Callie wasn’t particularly beautiful, but her eyes were very expressive, as if they could tell stories, making it easy to get lost in them.
He looked at her intently, feeling a bit uneasy. “What’s going on?”
Still somewhat rational, Callie gave up on pressing further and looked out at the falling snow while finishing her steak.
Jaquan didn’t move and waited quietly for her to finish eating. After about fifteen minutes, Callie grew restless. Her knife and fork fell from her hands, and she suddenly leaned in, planting a soft kiss on the corner of his lips.
At that moment, Jaquan’s remaining rationality thought that A volcanic eruption probably wouldn’t be as explosive as this moment.
Callie’s hand gently rested on the back of Jaquan’s head. The kiss was fleeting, their faces separated by a small distance, their eyes meeting more tenderly than the candlelight.
“Callie… do you know what you’re doing?”
She had only kissed him briefly. “You haven’t answered me yet.”
Desire stirred within Jaquan. Because of her leaning in, he had a clear view of the scene inside her robe’s neckline.
The sight was overwhelmingly enticing. His throat tightened, and his breathing grew rapid.
Just then, Callie’s phone rang. Jaquan felt her hand tremble slightly as clarity returned to her eyes, and she released him.
It was Litzy calling. “What’s up?”
The voice on the other end was urgent. “Did you see the email I sent you? Why haven’t you replied?”
“I’ll handle it right away.”
Interrupted by this call, the moment’s intimacy dissipated.
Callie looked toward the door, which remained still as if no one would interrupt even if she didn’t stop herself.
A wave of irritation rose in her heart.
But it didn’t matter; she wouldn’t lose in patience.
“Callie.” Jaquan gazed at her more seriously.
Callie pressed her lips together. “Something came up at work suddenly. I have to go.”
“I’ll take you.”
“No need. I’ll catch a cab downstairs; it’ll be quick.”
She went into the bathroom to change back into her clothes. When she came out, Jaquan had already called a cab for her using an app; it was waiting downstairs.
As he watched Callie leave, he called out to her. “Should I pretend tonight never happened?”
Callie curved her lips and made a gesture indicating it wasn’t necessary to take it seriously.
“Miss, where to?”
Callie fastened her seatbelt and gave an address-Paucaster Villa Complex.
Before Jaquan arrived, she had already arranged with Litzy to call her in half an hour with an urgent matter.
