Chapter 239: Elevator Encounter

Callie was pressed into her seat by the silent man. “I’ll pay you double.”
The food on the table was quickly removed and replaced with dishes that Nelson preferred.
Callie’s expression was grim. The new servant stood by and said to Nelson, trying to be clever, “It’s my fault. I didn’t understand Mrs. Oconnor’s dietary restrictions…”
Nelson seemed genuinely hungry. He hadn’t even taken off his coat, and a snowflake still clung to his shoulder.
After eating for a while, he glanced at the honey water in Callie’s hand and responded indifferently, “No need to apologize. Did you hear her say anything?”
Callie pressed her lips together, unable to voice the explanation she had planned for days.
“You’ve been looking for me recently,” he said, distant and cold.
“Mr. Oconnor, you must be very busy. I have a document that needs your signature, but I couldn’t find you,” Callie forced a smile, trying to change the subject.
She didn’t understand why Nelson treated her so coldly when she had only good intentions. The rumors he spread made her feel humiliated.
“Give it to the secretary.”
“Okay.”
After that, they didn’t speak again.
It was the last working day before the New Year. Because of the morning’s incident, Callie was distracted while packing up in the evening. She left the design department with Litzy and others, discussing popular movies released recently with Jett.
“Let’s go watch it together. I’m going home tomorrow and won’t be back for over half a month.”
“Sure.”
“Callie, are you coming? My treat,” Jett called out to her.
She didn’t mind either way. She wouldn’t see Nelson at the Paucaster Villa Complex, and even if she did, it would only be cold sarcasm.
“Alright.”
At this time, most people had already left, so the elevator wasn’t crowded. But when they pressed the button and it opened, they saw Nelson.
The always calm yet actually indifferent man stood there with his secretary.
Callie’s forced smile froze on her face. His presence here felt out of place.
Even Jett was stunned for a moment. He tugged on Callie’s sleeve and nodded, “Mr. Oconnor.”
Since joining Oconnor Group, Jett hadn’t seen Nelson many times, but each encounter left him overwhelmed by Nelson’s natural aura.
Callie just looked at the man without greeting him.
Jett grew anxious.
Nelson nodded in acknowledgment and stepped aside to make room, clearly inviting them in.
Jett and Litzy didn’t dare be impolite and quickly pulled Callie inside.
In the cramped corner, Callie felt completely stiff, her nose filled with the man’s cool scent, making her fully alert.
The elevator descended slowly in a terrifying silence.
Callie chose to look down at her phone.
Finally, it stopped. At that moment, Litzy received a call. “Hello, Mom?”
“What? I’ll be right back. Wait for me!”
She excitedly whispered to Callie, “My mom set me up on a blind date with a handsome guy. I have to go. You and Jett go watch the movie together.”
“Seize the opportunity,” she said with a wink. To her, Callie’s husband was not worth acknowledging; she thought Jett was much better.
With that tone, Callie couldn’t even focus on her phone anymore.
Jett felt awkward under her gaze, his ears turning red.
As the elevator doors closed again, Callie suddenly felt a chill beside her.
Nelson’s cool voice reached her ear, “Going to watch a movie?”
Jett was taken aback, thinking his boss was being unexpectedly friendly and considerate of his subordinates.
In the workplace, saying good things about your boss never hurt.
“Yes, Mr. Oconnor. It’s that popular romance movie.”
