Callie laughed, “Are you so sure I’ll agree with you?”
Cora, who had dealt with social interactions for many years, always spoke calmly, “I already know about the Kenker Hotel incident. You should be aware that Nelson doesn’t want a wife like you. Jaquan treats you well; you could find another backer.”
Callie crossed her arms and took a deep breath, “It seems you’ve investigated me thoroughly, even knowing about Jaquan. If he knew, he would definitely ask Nelson for you.”
Cora’s tone turned angry as she sneered, “Are you sure you won’t leave?”
Callie wanted to laugh too. Why did everyone think she had the final say in this matter?
“Go talk to Nelson. If he agrees, I’ll definitely leave. But if he doesn’t, don’t bother testing my thoughts.” Callie didn’t want to say more.
She wanted a divorce, but under the current circumstances, she couldn’t. She had to consider her own situation and couldn’t compromise because of a few words from others.
Moreover, she knew that Nelson currently had no intention of divorcing.
Cora understood Callie’s final stance and didn’t ask further. She was about to turn and leave.
Callie stopped her, “Miss Weber, Alayah somehow got in here. For the sake of Oconnor Group’s reputation, I advise you to handle it.”
Cora was slightly stunned, unsure if it was a surprise or something else. She stood still for a moment before leaving.
The night breeze was gentle yet lonely, lifting Callie’s long hair as she sighed silently.
At today’s annual meeting, many high-level executives from Oconnor Group attended, including various board members. The older ones looked dignified and imposing, with their wealth backing them. Employees approached them cautiously.
“Nelson, I reviewed Oconnor Group’s financial report this year. To be honest, I’m still scared by your decision to acquire Vankey. If it weren’t for the Blair family’s incident, our entire Oconnor Group might have been dragged down. It was too risky.”
In a specially arranged private room with beautiful scenery of pavilions and water features, several board members gathered for tea. Nelson sat at the end, smiling faintly without speaking.
“But the Blair family did have an incident, didn’t they?”
“And what if it had been Oconnor Group?” The eldest son of the previous generation of Oconnor Group, Dale, nearly sixty but well-maintained and imposing, sat in the main seat.
“Uncle Dale, I can assure you that with Vankey in hand, Oconnor Group’s commercial landscape will only expand infinitely over the next three years. It’s too early to speak pessimistically now.”
Nelson poured himself a cup of tea. The tea was green; he took a sip and put it down.
“Hmph… Three years. Don’t blame me for not reminding you. Your grandfather’s health is failing. Don’t let him see Oconnor Group fall in his lifetime, or you’ll be the sinner.” Dale sneered sarcastically.
Nelson smirked coldly, “It seems Uncle is not satisfied with this year’s dividends. If you’re really worried about Grandpa, why haven’t you visited him even once?”
“You!”
Seeing the tense atmosphere, someone stepped in to mediate, “Alright, we’re all family here. No need for harsh words. I believe in Nelson’s abilities. Most of this year’s revenue is still good. Of course, it would have been better without filling Vankey’s gap.”
Nelson remained silent, rubbing the rim of his cup. The lively sounds outside faintly seeped in.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door. It was Cora, looking anxiously at Nelson, not daring to move rashly.
