“I won’t.”
“Mr. Walters rushed back to Northville City overnight because of your situation. Things are urgent here in Fragrant Harbor, but he said he would return in a few days. This proves that Mr. Walters also wants to get to the bottom of this matter.”
Rosalind smiled, looking at the computer screen, somewhat puzzled.
Was Ulric doing this to clear his name? Or was he worried that the truth would damage Sirena’s reputation?
And what did he mean by “I want to protect you”?
She thought about it for a while but didn’t dwell on it too long.
After preparing herself, Rosalind stood up and left the office, heading straight to the legal department.
“Hello, is Lawyer Sirena in the office today?” she asked a female employee as soon as she got off the elevator.
It was obvious that this person knew about Rosalind and Sirena’s situation. Her eyes lit up as if she were part of some grand drama, showing a mix of wariness and excitement.
“What do you need her for?”
“It’s regarding a company investigation. I want to talk to her privately.”
Rosalind remained composed and confident.
The female employee’s eyes darted around. “I’ll ask Lawyer Reynolds. She’s here, but she might not have time to see you.”
“Alright, thank you.”
Rosalind waited where she was. After a short while, the employee returned, jogging over.
“Lawyer Reynolds said you can go straight in.”
“Thank you.”
Rosalind walked directly to Sirena’s office door, knocked, and entered upon hearing a response.
Sirena looked up and smiled gently when she saw her.
“I didn’t expect you to come looking for me.”
“Honestly, neither did I.” Rosalind looked at her face, which bore some resemblance to her own, and smiled. “In hindsight, I was quite clueless. When we first met, I didn’t suspect a thing.”
Sirena paused with her pen in hand.
A few seconds later, she moved.
“You think that day was our first meeting?”
Rosalind looked at her without speaking.
Sirena stood up from behind her desk, walked over in high heels, and slightly raised her red lips.
“To be precise, that was our second meeting.”
“…”
“I remember you were in high school then, working at a fast-food restaurant after school. After learning about this from my father’s phone, I made a point to see you.” Sirena lightly brushed Rosalind’s shoulder with her fingers, speaking as if recounting someone else’s story. “Seeing you so small and malnourished, do you know how happy that made me?”
Rosalind clenched her fists and met her gaze.
“Only you and your mother could be so self-righteous about being mistresses!”
“What does it mean to be a mistress? Tell me, what does it mean? Have you ever received fatherly love all these years? Did your father ever care about your well-being?” Sirena sneered. “In this day and age, the only reason he couldn’t unilaterally divorce your mother is because of the law! He asked for a divorce countless times, even took it to court, but your mother refused to agree! Honestly, as a fellow woman, I pity her. She has to cling to that marriage certificate for life.”
“And I pity your mother. She’ll always bear the title of mistress!”
This struck a nerve with Sirena.
She raised her hand to slap Rosalind, but this time Rosalind was prepared.
She grabbed Sirena’s wrist and pushed her hard, causing her to fall heavily to the ground.
Given that Sirena’s surgical wound hadn’t healed yet, the intense pain made her instinctively cry out,
Suddenly, the door to Sirena’s office was flung open.
Ulric strode in, his handsome face dark with anger.
“Rosalind, what are you doing here?”
