Rosalind knew he meant well and wanted to help her.
But she couldn’t repay Malcolm in kind.
Seeing that she still wasn’t willing to agree, Malcolm instinctively reached out to grab her wrist.
Suddenly!
Rosalind felt herself being pulled back and stumbled into a strong, solid embrace.
She looked up, stunned.
It was Ulric. Why was he here?
“No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Hines. I’ll take her,” Ulric said.
Malcolm glanced at Rosalind, then at Ulric. “Are you… Rosalind’s boyfriend?”
“No, he’s not,” Rosalind denied immediately.
Time seemed to stand still for a few seconds. Ulric moved his thin lips but said nothing.
Malcolm wanted to persist, but Rosalind was already being led to the car by Ulric.
After the car had driven some distance, she finally spoke, “You can drop me off at the next intersection.”
“I’ll have the headquarters’ audit department investigate this matter. You don’t need to worry about it. Take these few days as a break.”
“Company audits are the company’s business. I’m gathering evidence to prove myself.” She wouldn’t sit idly by, waiting for someone to hastily give her an answer and settle the matter.
Ulric’s thick brows furrowed, his handsome face tense and sharp.
“I’ve talked to Sirena. She said she didn’t do it.”
“Of course she’d say that! Do you think anyone would frame someone else and then admit it? Sirena isn’t stupid.” Rosalind turned her gaze out the window and sighed, not wanting to argue with him. She feared her emotions might get too intense and inadvertently lash out at Ulric. After all, up until now, he was still her benefactor. “Mr. Walters, I still have the right to prove my innocence, don’t I?”
“You do, but currently, all indications are that Sirena didn’t frame you.”
“I know.” Rosalind tugged at her lips. “I never expected anyone to believe me without evidence. I understand if you or anyone else doubts my motives. I haven’t asked you for anything, so you don’t need to keep reminding me of this!”
Did he really need to come all the way to Prosperity Holdings to tell her that the evidence showed Sirena didn’t frame her?
Was he trying to brainwash her?
“Rosalind, can you be more rational? Don’t let your emotions rule you! I’m talking about the matter itself.”
“I’m not discussing emotions with you!”
“…”
She rubbed her temples in frustration. “Can you let me out of the car? I’m in a bad mood because of this situation, and I might say something harsh.”
Ulric stopped the car by the roadside but didn’t unlock the doors. Instead, he turned to look at her.
“You don’t need Malcolm’s help to recover the messages. I’ll say it again: leave this matter to me.”
Rosalind met his gaze stubbornly.
“Then I’ll say it again, Mr. Walters: I’ll find a way to prove my innocence myself. I didn’t do it, and I don’t need anyone’s help to handle it.”
In fact, she was worried that if Ulric got involved, the matter might not be handled fairly.
Ulric could see the distrust in her eyes.
Just like back in school, she had never given anyone a look of trust. She was always like a lone little beast, isolated and unwilling to walk with others.
“If she did it, I won’t favor Sirena.”
“Don’t you get it?” Rosalind frowned. “We’re not on the same side right now! I’m firmly on the side that knows I didn’t do this, while you preface your statements with ‘if.’ So you’re either neutral or on Sirena’s side.”
“Then is Malcolm on your side?”
“At least he’s definitely not supporting Sirena.”
