Malcolm had no idea what time Rosalind’s flight would arrive, only knowing it was in the early morning. So, he came to wait at the airport at eleven o’clock at night.
Before Rosalind could reply to his message, she heard Malcolm’s voice.
Looking up, she saw him standing at the arrival gate, dressed in a dark coat, looking travel-worn.
“Rosalind, over here!”
She walked over with her luggage, and Malcolm naturally took it from her.
“Tired? Come on, get in the car. I’ll take you to Tilda’s place so you can get a good night’s sleep! Tomorrow morning, a few of my friends will come over to help you out. They’re experts in this field. I was worried I couldn’t handle it alone, so I contacted them.”
Malcolm’s rapid speech at this moment really reminded her of Tilda.
But in the deep night, it gave off a sense of familial warmth and kindness.
“What’s wrong?”
Seeing her not moving, Malcolm raised an eyebrow.
“I… I can’t respond to your enthusiasm, Mr. Hines. I can’t just accept your help so easily.”
He was taken aback for a moment, then smiled helplessly. “Why think so much? Putting all that aside, aren’t you a good friend of Tilda’s? Besides, my project got connected with W Group because of you. If something happens to you, it would affect me too. It’s only right for me to help you.”
While Malcolm said this, Rosalind wasn’t a child, she understood the implications.
She got into the car with him and remained silent throughout the ride.
As they neared Tilda’s neighborhood, Rosalind suddenly spoke up.
“I didn’t tell Tilda the truth. Actually, I’m not single.”
Although her marriage to Ulric was a contractual one, she was still legally married.
Malcolm was surprised but smiled. “Then your boyfriend is a lucky man. It must not have been easy to win you over.”
“I said I’m not single. Will you still help me?”
“I already told you, I’m helping you because I consider you a friend.” He looked at Rosalind through the rearview mirror. “Rosalind, I’m not the kind of man who does everything with an ulterior motive. I admit I admire you and would like you to be my girlfriend. But even without that, I’m still Tilda’s cousin, which makes me somewhat your cousin too.”
“…”
“Don’t think about those things now. The priority is to solve your current predicament. Although I’m not in the corporate world, from what Tilda told me, I understand the importance of this matter. Let’s first find evidence to clear your name. As for feelings, just pretend nothing happened. I won’t continue to pursue you.”
Malcolm smiled gently and parked the car at the entrance of the building.
“Get a good night’s sleep. You have to face what needs to be faced, staying up all night won’t help! Be good.”
Rosalind nodded and accepted his kind advice.
Tilda had been waiting upstairs and nearly fell asleep. Hearing the noise, she ran down.
“Rosalind, finally! Don’t worry, my brother and I are always on your side!”
These simple and direct words made Rosalind smile genuinely for the first time that day.
“Alright.”
Malcolm helped her carry her luggage upstairs and even cooked her a bowl of noodles before leaving.
After a hearty meal, Rosalind washed up and lay in bed, finally seeing Ulric’s message on WeChat.
[Have you arrived?]
