He wore a cold expression as he replied to her, “It’s not convenient for you to take care of my mother. I’ll send someone to replace you. Thank you for your hard work.”
“You should know how severe your mother’s depression is. I just want her to be happy,” Sirena replied.
Sirena’s words brought Ulric back to the year when his mother attempted suicide in the bathroom, slitting her wrists and leaving the floor covered in blood, the crimson color glaringly vivid…
The reason was that he refused to follow the family’s wishes and get engaged to Sirena.
Since Audrey developed severe depression, her need for control had grown stronger by the day. Whether it was a major issue or a minor one, any slight dissatisfaction would lead her to suicidal thoughts. She even took half a bottle of sleeping pills once because the maid who had been taking care of her wanted to resign.
The doctor said she was traumatized after being kidnapped and that her psyche was too fragile. The only treatment was to let her rest peacefully and comply with her as much as possible.
Ulric’s hand hovered over the screen for a long time before he finally decided not to reply to Sirena’s message.
Not long after, Cedric knocked on the door. “Mr. Walters, you called for me?”
“Yes, for this research and development project, include Rosalind’s name.”
“Understood!”
Cedric was genuinely happy for Rosalind. Although she was a newcomer, she worked hard without complaints. The projects she had participated in were completed with high quality and no major issues, so including her name was well-deserved.
“Make sure you mentor her well and ensure her record remains spotless,” Ulric said, preparing for all eventualities.
It’s not enough for him to approach Rosalind, she must also come to him.
“I understand, Mr. Walters.”

During dinner, if Cedric hadn’t called her three times, Rosalind would have continued working with just a piece of bread.
As soon as she arrived at the hotel restaurant, she saw Cedric walking over with a big smile.
“I have good news. Want to hear it?”
“Of course.”
“Mr. Walters personally said you could put your name on this project.”
Rosalind was puzzled. She couldn’t understand Ulric’s actions. He had left abruptly earlier, and she thought he was angry. How did he suddenly agree to let her sign off on the project?
“Make sure you thank Mr. Walters properly later,” Cedric reminded her, not noticing her confusion.
Rosalind nodded. “Yes, I understand.”
Soon, Ulric appeared in the restaurant with several key personnel.
He was still as noticeable as ever, attracting countless gazes as soon as he entered.
Ulric wasn’t wearing a formal suit but a black casual outfit. His hair was still meticulously styled, and his slightly furrowed brows and tightly pressed lips added an air of aloofness and nobility.
Before Rosalind could look away, their eyes met directly.
She instinctively looked elsewhere, pretending she hadn’t seen anything.
“I’ve already sent the project signature documents to the headquarters. Once the legal department reviews them, we can use the new contract,” Cedric mentioned intentionally near Rosalind to remind her.
Rosalind knew he was hinting at her.
“Um… thank you for your support, Mr. Walters,” she said, forcing herself to speak to Ulric.
He merely nodded slightly, indicating he heard her.
Throughout dinner, Rosalind kept her head down and focused on eating without saying a word.
However, she noticed that whenever she dined with Ulric, there was never any garlic in the dishes…
Could it be that he specifically requested it?
