“I can’t, but Malcolm can?”
Ulric furrowed his thick eyebrows, his dark eyes scrutinizing her for any hint of emotion.
After a few seconds of thought, she didn’t answer but instead asked, “This time my mother insisted that I bring my boyfriend to see her, or she wouldn’t agree to the surgery. I took Malcolm, thinking we could get away with it, but my mother suddenly demanded that Malcolm’s parents come to the hospital room immediately! If I had brought you instead, could your parents have come?”
“…”
The answer was obviously no.
Not only did Ulric know this, but Rosalind was also very clear about it.
After all, his noble status was a given!
“So, can you understand?” Rosalind asked cautiously.
But Ulric remained silent.
He pressed his lips together, dressed quickly, and left the room without even taking his medication!
Rosalind watched his departing figure and could only sigh in the end.
She hoped that Ulric’s possessiveness towards Sirena would not extend to her anymore. She also hoped he could distinguish that she was not Sirena, just a lowly substitute.

Ulric never returned after leaving. Rosalind washed her face and continued working at her desk.
At six in the evening, Cedric came knocking on the door.
“Give me the parts you’ve checked. You have three more days for the rest! Since you don’t need to leave the hotel, try to do as much as you can. I’ll talk to Mr. Walters about getting your name on the project.”
Rosalind made an okay gesture but had one thing she didn’t understand.
“Cedric, since you don’t need me to follow you around for meetings or due diligence, why did you bring me to Fragrant Harbor?”
He could have sent these documents to her email and she could have checked them at the headquarters. Why bring her all the way to Fragrant Harbor only to stay inside the hotel?
“This is Mr. Walters’ decision. I don’t know the specifics, he might have other uses for you.”
“Mr. Walters’ decision?”
“Yeah! Otherwise, as a secretary, no matter how important I am, I can’t decide who comes along on a project.”
Rosalind frowned slightly, “He specifically asked for me?”
“Yes.” Cedric nodded, still puzzled himself. “But I think maybe he feels sorry for your situation and knows it’s not easy for you to make it in the investment industry. He might want to support you more! If you’re here in Fragrant Harbor, it would be more legitimate for your name to be on the project.”
So that’s it, he felt sorry for her…
“Rosalind, don’t overthink it. In our line of work, performance speaks louder than anything else. Background doesn’t matter, it’s not like we’re choosing a crown prince! Mr. Walters has always appreciated people who are serious and responsible about their work. His support for you probably means he sees potential in you.”
She smiled, “Mr. Walters and I were classmates. He knew my family’s situation very well back in middle school. There’s nothing much for me to think about, I should be thanking Mr. Walters instead!”
After seeing Cedric off, Rosalind returned to her room, feeling an inexplicable emptiness inside.
She couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
She picked up her phone, thought for a while, and sent a message to Tilda.
[Do you think the stronger a man’s possessiveness, the more he loves that woman?]
Just like Ulric now, even getting jealous over her as Sirena’s substitute.
Tilda replied, [Of course! Do you even need to ask? It’s definitely proportional! Absolutely super love!]
