Chapter 91: Reconciling with Sirena

Before Rosalind could utter another word, Ulric had already ended the call.
It appeared… their relationship had reverted to that of a CEO and his assistant.
After all, he had reconciled with Sirena. What place could she, the substitute, possibly hold?
Rosalind powered down her computer, changed into her pajamas, and took a shower. However, as she lay in bed, sleep eluded her.
She tossed and turned, unable to drift off.
The early morning hours had arrived, and if she didn’t sleep soon, she would have to wake up for work!
Rosalind squeezed her eyes shut, but no matter what she tried, drowsiness evaded her. She got up and restarted her computer to resume working.
As soon as she logged into the company software, she noticed that Ulric was still online.
Was he also unable to sleep?
After gazing at the screen for a while, Rosalind suddenly recollected that Ulric was in a different time zone since he was abroad. It was afternoon for him.
A self-mocking smile tugged at her lips.
She was truly being presumptuous, actually caring about every move of the CEO!
Rosalind summarized and filed the information about Genesis Enterprises Group, then handed over all the projects related to Malcolm to Cedric.
She wasn’t dissatisfied with Ulric’s decision.
She understood that he had taken a comprehensive view and believed she wasn’t competent enough or might make errors, which is why he instructed her to transfer the project.
Yet, it was precisely his composed analysis and decision-making, devoid of any emotion, that left Rosalind feeling so unfamiliar.
Ulric remained the high-and-mighty CEO, wielding the power of life and death over the entire company. It felt as if the gentle and considerate version of him she had known before was merely an illusion, while this cold version was the real him.
The following morning, Rosalind arrived at work with dark circles under her eyes from a restless night.
Fortunately, foundation helped conceal them, along with the small wound on her face.
“I saw that you transferred the new car development project to me. Are you unhappy with Mr. Walters?” Cedric approached her promptly when he saw her.
Rosalind shook her head. “Mr. Walters mentioned in yesterday’s meeting that I’m still too emotionally invested and cannot objectively handle this project. It’s a good thing to transfer it, otherwise, if I caused any losses to the company, I would be held responsible.”
Cedric chuckled. “You don’t need to think that way. Mr. Walters is very fair. I’ve worked with him for many years and have never seen him target anyone. Every decision he makes is carefully considered.”
Every decision?
Rosalind wondered if that included their ludicrous contract.
“Don’t worry, I really don’t have any ulterior motives. I’m just grateful to be able to work at the headquarters.”
“That’s good. I was concerned that you didn’t understand Mr. Walters’ character and harbored dissatisfaction towards him! And don’t worry, since you brought this project into the company, if it succeeds, you’ll definitely receive credit.”
“You don’t have to explain, I understand.”
Cedric nodded and smiled. “Alright then, get busy. You can trust me with this project, I’ll communicate well with the other party.”
Rosalind gestured okay and then returned to her desk.
Beep beep-
Her phone buzzed, indicating an unread WhatsApp message.
She swiftly picked it up and opened the message.
Still not…
It was from Eva:
[You and Malcolm must accompany me for the surgery this weekend!]
Rosalind furrowed her brow and replied:
[Mom, he’s extremely busy.]
Eva:
[Quit making excuses! I just spoke to him, and he said he’s free this weekend.]
