Around noon, Rosalind took a well-deserved break from typing on her keyboard. Feeling a momentary urge, she glanced at her nearby phone, picked it up, unlocked it, and opened WhatsApp.
To her disappointment, there were no new messages. Ulric’s chat appeared as the third one on her screen, with the last message being the one she had sent him.
An idea crossed Rosalind’s mind-wouldn’t it be helpful if WhatsApp displayed whether the other person was online? But even if she knew his online status, she pondered, what could she say?
Just as she contemplated this, a knock on the office door interrupted her thoughts. Looking up, Rosalind saw Cedric standing there.
“Recently, keep an eye on Genesis Enterprises in Fragrant Harbor. They’ve been actively acquiring assets this year, particularly focusing on new technology development. Mr. Walters is currently on a business trip because of this. Our W Group plans to inject promising listed companies through targeted issuance,” Cedric informed her.
“Understood.” Rosalind immediately turned to her computer, eager to gain a preliminary understanding of Genesis Enterprises’ recent activities.
Cedric smiled helplessly at her speed. “No need to rush. The cooperation case with Huayi has already been signed, and the project is in the operational stage. The SNS project also owes a lot to your contributions. You don’t have to worry about your bonus this year.”
“Mr. Walters promoted me to the head office for training, so I feel it’s my duty to do more for the company,” Rosalind replied, hoping that keeping herself occupied with work would help distract her from other thoughts.
“It’s great to see your dedication, but remember to take care of your health. The real challenges in our industry come later,” Cedric advised, just as his phone started ringing.
Without avoiding Rosalind, he answered the call. “Mr. Walters.”
As soon as Rosalind heard those words, she held her breath, hoping to catch any fragments of the conversation. Unfortunately, the voice on the other end was too soft, making it difficult for her to make out any details. Cedric responded a few times, appearing to receive work assignments from Ulric.
After the call ended, Cedric’s face lit up with delight. “Mr. Walters is truly remarkable. He successfully secured a cross-border joint investment deal. Import and export trade has always been a significant opportunity.”
Rosalind couldn’t help but share in the happiness. She had long recognized Ulric’s business acumen, as it was his expertise that propelled the W Group to its current success.
“Keep up the good work. Strive to remain at the head office once your training period concludes,” Cedric encouraged, placing high expectations on his protege.
Rosalind’s recent presence had undeniably accelerated the progress of their work, thanks to her effective execution.
“Do you think I have enough qualifications?”
“As long as there are no surprises during the Huayi project cooperation, combined with the results of the SNS project, even if Mr. Walters doesn’t explicitly mention it, you can apply to transfer to the head office yourself. Don’t worry, I’ll help you arrange a meeting with the HR department.”
Hearing Cedric’s words, Rosalind felt even more motivated. Previously, she had worried that upsetting Ulric might jeopardize her chances of working at the head office, as he wouldn’t want to see her there.
“I appreciate your support in advance! By the way, the toast was delicious. I checked the price on the official website and transferred the money to your WhatsApp.”
“… I was going to throw it away anyway. Why are you giving me money?”
“Consider it a purchase from you. Isn’t that better than wasting it?” Rosalind replied politely, wearing a smile.
This time, however, Cedric adamantly refused to accept the money, so Rosalind decided to buy him some more tomorrow as a gesture of gratitude.
As Cedric was about to leave, he paused at the door. “Oh, I almost forgot. There’s a remote video conference at 8 PM with Mr. Walters. You’ll be joining as well.”
