After dinner, Malcolm ensured the door was securely locked before bidding them farewell and driving back to their place.
Utterly exhausted, Rosalind took a shower and promptly fell asleep.
Throughout the night, her sleep was restless, and she curled up tightly, holding onto her blanket like a protective shield.
The following morning, Rosalind abruptly woke up to the jarring sound of her alarm clock.
As she opened her eyes, she found herself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling, momentarily forgetting that she was staying at Tilda’s apartment.
She swiftly got up, dressed, and completed her morning routine just as Tilda emerged from her bedroom, phone in hand. “Wait, I just ordered breakfast through my phone. We can eat together before heading to work.”
Rosalind checked the time. “I can’t wait. W Group is quite far from here. I need to leave now to catch the subway! I won’t be able to join you for breakfast.”
“In that case, why not take a cab? It’s not too expensive,” Tilda suggested casually, only realizing afterward that Rosalind would never willingly spend money on a cab when the subway was a viable option.
“It’s alright. I’ll grab something to eat at noon. Gotta go now, bye.”
With her laptop and bag in hand, Rosalind made her way outside. Since it was her first time commuting from Tilda’s place to the W Group, she took a little extra time to figure out the best route.
Fortunately, she left early enough and arrived at the W Group on time.
“Good morning.”
Upon entering the office, Cedric stood by the door, holding a package in his hands.
“You look like you haven’t eaten. Am I right?”
Rosalind smiled. “I’m not hungry. I’ll have something for lunch.”
“Here, I bought too much. Try this strawberry toast,” Cedric insisted, placing the bag on her desk.
“Oh no, this place is quite expensive!”
“That’s precisely why it would be a waste to throw it away. You might as well enjoy it,” Cedric said before making his way to the elevator and back to his own office without waiting for her response.
Helplessly, Rosalind sat down and opened the beautifully packaged bag.
L&H’s toast costs over a hundred yuan per slice! And Cedric had almost half a bag left over that he was going to discard?
As she held the toast in her hand, a thought crossed her mind-could it be that Ulric had asked Cedric to buy it for her?
However, she dismissed the idea.
How could that be?
She had been indulging in wishful thinking lately.
Rosalind turned on her laptop and began organizing documents while nibbling on the toast. She sent the files to the legal department for review.
After the morning meeting, she checked her email again but found no feedback from the legal department.
Normally, they would have had ample time to review the documents by now.
Rosalind dialed the internal line to contact the legal department. The call was answered by a girl, whom Rosalind had previously worked with on the SNS contract.
“Oh, Miss Ruell. Lawyer Garner went on a business trip with Mr. Walters yesterday, so she won’t be able to sign and stamp the documents at the moment. I’ll inform her, and she’ll review them as soon as possible.”
“I see.” So they had gone on a business trip together. “Didn’t Lawyer Garner just have surgery?”
Rosalind remembered it was Ulric who had taken Sirena to the hospital.
“Yes, indeed. Lawyer Garner is incredibly dedicated! It’s no wonder she’s the chief lawyer of the W Group.”
Rosalind’s suspicion was now confirmed. She hadn’t misheard anything.
Ha, she had foolishly clung to hope and kept asking.
After hanging up, she rubbed her temples and glanced at the bag of toast on her desk.
She had naively entertained the thought that Ulric might have asked Cedric to buy the toast for her. How ridiculous it seemed now.
