Rosalind’s phone buzzed with a notification, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
Ulric is coming over?!
She nearly dropped her phone, hastily rising from her chair, startling Eva in the process. “What’s the matter now?” her mother asked.
“Oh, it’s nothing. The company leader just messaged me, asking for some data. I need to make a call.”
Without sparing Malcolm a glance, Rosalind hurriedly left the room.
No, Ulric can’t come! She had only just managed to conceal her lies, and if he showed up, who knew what would unfold next?
Isn’t today Sirena’s birthday? How could he find time to come to the hospital…
Frantically, Rosalind dialed Ulric’s number, but after several attempts, the phone rang without anyone answering!
She felt as if she were sitting on pins and needles, sending him multiple urgent messages on WhatsApp:
[Don’t come yet! We can talk when I get back.]
[My mom’s condition is really unstable right now, please don’t come!]
However, none of these messages received a response. It was as if Ulric had suddenly vanished!
Rosalind waited at the hospital entrance for another ten minutes, yet there was no sign of him.
So, Ulric must have seen the WhatsApp messages, right? Or perhaps something came up at the company, and he had to return for a meeting! Otherwise, he should have arrived at the hospital by now.
After confirming that his car wasn’t parked there, Rosalind finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Back in the ward, Malcolm’s parents had arrived, bearing even more expensive supplements than what Malcolm had purchased!
Eva scrutinized their faces carefully, ensuring Malcolm hadn’t hired actors to deceive her. Her attitude softened slightly.
“Please have a seat. I apologize for not being able to get up to greet you. Rosa, please wash some fruit for our guests.”
“Okay.”
…
After all the commotion, the outcome was finally favorable. Eva agreed to proceed with the scheduled surgery.
Once Malcolm and his family had departed, Rosalind checked the time.
It was 9 PM.
There was still an hour remaining until the time Ulric had instructed her to return to Easthaven Bay.
She opened WhatsApp again, but there were still no messages from Ulric.
Rosalind found it peculiar. Even if he had a meeting, it shouldn’t have taken this long!
Suddenly, her phone rang.
She thought it might be Ulric, but when she glanced at the screen, it displayed Sirena’s number.
“Hello, Lawyer Garner,” Rosalind answered reluctantly, compelled to pick up due to work.
“Where are you?”
Rosalind glanced back at the hospital entrance. “I just left my mother’s place. I’m about to… grab something to eat.”
“Ulric was in a car accident. Come to the city hospital, I need to ask you something.”
Ulric in a car accident?!
Her heart sank, and she promptly ended the call, hailing a taxi to the city hospital. In that moment, she couldn’t even fathom the awkwardness of encountering Sirena later, her sole concern was for Ulric’s well-being.
Upon arriving at the city hospital, Rosalind rushed into the emergency room.
From a distance, she spotted Sirena in a hospital gown, accompanied by a tall man.
She hurried over, about to speak, when-
Sirena pushed her!
Before Rosalind could react, she collided with the door frame…
“If anything happens to Ulric, I will never forgive you!”
