Fortunately, the assistant arrived with dinner at the perfect moment.
They had only done it once.
However, it had still drained her energy considerably… to the point that she had to be carried to the dining room by him.
Before going to bed, Ulric leaned against the headboard and read a book for a while.
Observing his profile, Rosalind had the urge to inquire about Sirena multiple times, but ultimately, she remained silent.
Glancing at her phone, she noted that the day after tomorrow would be August 25th.
On that day, Ulric probably wouldn’t return to Easthaven Bay, coincidentally aligning with the deadline her mother had given her.
…
The following day, as soon as Rosalind arrived at the company, she became immediately engrossed in work.
Cedric still had several major projects on hand and couldn’t solely focus on social media, so he delegated almost everything he could to Rosalind.
It was nearing noon when she finally lifted her head from a stack of documents and found a secluded stairwell to call Tilda.
“By tomorrow, at the very latest… I need a guy to accompany me when I visit my mom.”
“Huh?” Tilda’s voice sounded troubled. “I found someone, but he said he can only make it next week. Can’t you wait?”
“My mom insisted that I bring someone to meet her within three days, or she’ll discharge herself from the hospital.”
If possible, Rosalind would prefer to postpone this meeting until her mother forgot about it entirely.
“Your mother sure knows how to hit you where it hurts,” Tilda remarked with a click of her tongue. “Alright, I’ll talk to my friend again. Don’t worry.”
After ending the call, Rosalind returned to her office and noticed a message from Ulric on WhatsApp:
[The hospital mentioned your mother wants to postpone the surgery.]
Rosalind swiftly replied:
[No need to postpone! I’ll handle it. Thank you for your concern.]
She knew her mother likely believed she wouldn’t bring anyone, so this was a veiled warning.
Rosalind sighed. Thoughts of Eva stirred a mix of frustration and helplessness within her.
Ulric sent another message:
[Do you need my help?]
She smirked faintly.
Yes, he could go to the hospital room, endure scolding and berating from Eva. Could he handle that?
Sighing once more, Rosalind responded, [No, she’s just throwing a tantrum over something trivial. I’ll talk to her. She’s a bit anxious about the surgery.]
Exiting the chat, she composed another text to her mother:
[I will definitely bring someone tomorrow. Please don’t delay the surgery, it’s challenging to gather all the specialists.]
She had said it, but by evening, Tilda still hadn’t gotten back to her.
Feeling weighed down, Rosalind returned to Easthaven Bay, unable to concentrate on the documents displayed on her computer screen, her mind was consumed by this predicament!
She couldn’t conjure a man out of thin air to accompany her tomorrow…
Sensing Rosalind’s restlessness, Ulric completed his work and returned to the bedroom. His imposing figure towered beside her.
“What’s troubling you?”
“Nothing, just a headache from reading contracts.”
“Deal with it tomorrow.”
Ulric forcefully shut down her computer, then pinned her down onto the bed…
Lately, he had developed an inclination for holding her close. Today, he once again embraced her tightly for a while. As he rose to take a shower, he paused at the bathroom door and said, “Tomorrow, I have something important.”
Rosalind could still faintly feel the warmth of his lips on hers, but in the next moment, it was as if she had been plunged into a freezer.
“Oh…”
She knew it was Sirena’s birthday.
“Don’t return before ten in the evening, go wait at your mother’s place first.”
