Rosalind’s gaze fell upon the man standing before her, and for a moment, she wondered if she was caught in a dream.
Shouldn’t he be by Sirena’s side, taking care of her after the surgery?
“Not much to do, there’s another friend with her,” Ulric responded nonchalantly, removing his suit jacket and neatly stowing it away.
Rosalind blinked. “Is it a male friend?”
“What?”
“The other friend you mentioned, is it a man?”
Ulric nodded. “Yes, he’s better suited to look after Lawyer Garner than I am.”
With that, Rosalind pieced together most of the situation.
She had always pondered what kind of obstacle or misunderstanding separated Ulric and Sirena, despite their evident affection for each other.
Now, it became clear-a “third party” was involved.
Considering Ulric’s reserved and composed nature, he probably couldn’t compete with the attentiveness of his rival, causing Sirena to waver between the two men.
No wonder he had always wanted Rosalind to accompany him, perhaps to provoke Sirena.
“Have you eaten?” Ulric remained oblivious to her profound analysis, always placing her hunger as his primary concern.
“No, I’m on a diet,” Rosalind replied sincerely, lacking any appetite.
“That’s not good. Eat less in the evening, I’ll have my assistant bring something over.” His words held an undeniable authority.
It seemed as though he were born to lead, while others were destined to follow his commands.
Rosalind rose from her seat and observed as he retrieved some fruit from the fridge, washed it, and placed it before her. He selected the largest, ripest strawberry, extending it to her.
“I had someone specially bring this for you.”
Rosalind accepted it, slightly puzzled. “How did you know I like strawberries?”
Though she enjoyed them, she hadn’t purchased any in a long time. In fact, it had been over a year since she last savored one.
“During middle school, you devoured an entire box during one lunch break.”
Middle school?
Rosalind’s memory was jogged-the first time she tasted strawberries was indeed during her middle school days!
She vaguely recalled a generous classmate who had distributed boxes of strawberries to everyone, allowing her to experience the exquisite fruit for the first time.
“You even remember that,” she remarked, taking a bite.
Mmm, it was truly sweet.
Ulric smiled, saying nothing, holding another strawberry between his long fingers, prepared to offer it at any moment.
Of course, Ulric hadn’t forgotten because he was the “generous” classmate.
During an English class when they were learning the word “strawberry,” he had noticed Rosalind fixated on the strawberry illustration for an extended period.
Ulric knew that if he had simply purchased strawberries for her, Rosalind wouldn’t have accepted them. So, using the prize money he won in a competition, he contacted an orchard and, under the guise of the class monitor, presented each classmate with a box of strawberries.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Rosalind glanced at him, selecting a strawberry herself and holding it up to his mouth. “It’s incredibly sweet.”
He didn’t refuse and took a bite of the strawberry, unintentionally brushing against her fingertip.
A jolt of electricity coursed through Rosalind, causing her to swiftly retract her hand, her cheeks flushing crimson.
As mature adults, they both understood that the current ambiance called for something else…
Ulric tenderly scooped her up in his arms and proceeded towards the bedroom, planting a lingering kiss upon Rosalind’s lips, leaving her breathless, her face as rosy as the core of the strawberry.
“Mmm, incredibly sweet.”
