Ulric had already entered the bathroom, and Rosalind was left pondering the significance of his words.
It appeared that he didn’t want her to join the middle school group and held a dislike towards Harold as well.

During her business trip to Jingtown, Rosalind gained a wealth of knowledge from Cedric. Not only did she enhance her due diligence arrangements, but she also honed her communication skills.
Upon returning to Northville, Rosalind was granted two days of special leave. However, she utilized that time to collaborate with Cedric on Malcolm’s project.
Finally, after clarifying and submitting the project, she was preparing to pack up and visit her mother in the hospital when she received a call from Eva.
“Mom.”
“You’re back in Northville, right?”
Rosalind detected an unusual tone in her mother’s voice-it sounded somewhat rigid.
“Yes, I’ve finished dealing with company matters. I was just about to come to the hospital to see you.”
“Let’s discuss it when you arrive.”
With that, Eva abruptly ended the call.
Staring at the darkened phone screen, Rosalind grew concerned that her father might be causing trouble for her mother again. After all, she had just returned and couldn’t think of any reason that would upset Eva.
She rose to leave Easthaven Bay and, as soon as she opened the door, she spotted Ulric’s car pulling up.
“Are you heading to the hospital?”
He stepped out of the car with his long legs and immediately guessed her intentions.
“Yes, I’ve been on a business trip. I need to inquire about my mother’s condition from the doctor.”
“I’ll accompany you.”
“No need!” Rosalind instinctively refused, but then realized her tone was harsh and hastily added, “My mom… doesn’t appreciate visitors. It’s not about you.”
Ulric didn’t press the issue and simply nodded. “In that case, I’ll give you a ride.”
Rosalind didn’t decline his kind offer again, considering that it was indeed difficult to find a taxi in Easthaven Bay.
At the hospital, she waved farewell as she watched Ulric’s car depart, then turned to enter the building.
Outside the VIP ward, two tall bodyguards stood sentry, attracting curious glances from passersby.
Carrying the fruit she had just purchased from a nearby store, Rosalind pushed open the door and found Eva lying on the bed.
Her mother appeared stern and glanced at her daughter before speaking, “Come here.”
Rosalind approached the bedside without any defenses, but before she could utter a word, her mother delivered a forceful slap across her face-
There was no time to evade. The crisp sound reverberated through the ward.
The impact was so intense that red marks immediately appeared on Rosalind’s fair complexion.
It was shocking.
“Mom…”
“Do you know why I slapped you?”
Eva clenched her fists in anger, her breathing becoming rapid. This marked the first time she had ever laid a hand on her daughter!
Rosalind’s mind immediately recalled the text message that woman had sent her…
“You’re so young, yet you’ve become a man’s mistress?! Don’t you dare call me ‘mom’ again, I don’t have such a shameless daughter!”
“…”
Confronted with her mother’s accusations, she simply covered her cheek and listened without offering a retort.
“Get me discharged immediately. I refuse to undergo any surgery here. I’d rather die than use this tainted money to prolong my life!”
Eva’s voice grew loud, causing one of Rosalind’s ears to ring. She wasn’t sure if it was due to the slap or something else.
“The specialists have already scheduled the surgery, it cannot be canceled.”
“Then let me die now!” Eva’s emotions surged once more. Ignoring the pain in her cheek, Rosalind urgently clasped her mother’s hand.
“Mom, they told you this, didn’t they? You must be aware of their motives!”
“It doesn’t matter who told me. Is it true that you’re being kept by a man?!”
Her mother’s direct question caught Rosalind off guard.
She hadn’t expected her relationship with Ulric to be discovered so quickly…
But if she wished for her mother to live,
When did she ever have a choice?
“Mom, it’s not true.”
