The following morning, Rosalind awoke to find Ulric absent from the room. However, in the living room outside the suite, a thoughtfully arranged breakfast awaited her, accompanied by a handwritten note from Ulric.
The note read: “There’s a charity event today. I’ll contact you after it ends. -Ulric.”
Rosalind couldn’t help but feel validated. Ulric’s visit to Jingtown clearly involved other important matters.
After freshening up and enjoying her breakfast, Rosalind met up with Cedric. Having gathered most of the information about Dwight the previous day, their focus now shifted to conducting a thorough investigation into the operations of SNS. Despite receiving reports from their manager overnight, they decided to exercise caution and conduct an on-site due diligence at the company.
Throughout the day, Rosalind’s admiration for Ulric reached new heights. She finally understood why he had insisted on introducing her as the project leader to Mr. Motley.
From the moment she stepped foot in SNS, everyone-from top executives to grassroots employees-treated her with utmost caution. It seemed that even the smallest punctuation mark in their responses required careful consideration.
This environment made it easier for Cedric to investigate the actual situation, as he went relatively unnoticed.
In the evening, Rosalind and Cedric found a cozy restaurant where they could discuss their due diligence findings. As they settled down, Rosalind began reviewing the materials.
Cedric smiled beside her and remarked, “I couldn’t help but notice how evasive you were when you first saw me today! Turns out you were worried I might be upset.”
“This project involves a significant investment and is crucial for the W Group. You’ve put in a lot of effort, Cedric, and yet I swooped in and took the credit. If I were in your position, I would certainly feel unhappy about it,” Rosalind admitted.
Cedric shrugged nonchalantly. “That’s because you’re still relatively new to the workplace. Mr. Walters knows exactly who contributed what and to what extent. That’s how he built the W Group into what it is today! Although you’re officially leading this project, my compensation remains unchanged. This approach also diverts attention from the other company, ensuring accuracy in our investigation and reducing investment risks. Why would I be upset?”
Rosalind realized that her perspective was limited, and she still had much to learn in the investment industry.
“Of course, it also depends on Mr. Walters’ support for you,” Cedric added suddenly. “Having such a significant project on your resume elevates you to the level of an investment director! If you ever decide to leave the W Group, other companies will compete to hire you.”
“I have no intention of leaving the W Group,” Rosalind affirmed.
“Of course not! I’ve been with Mr. Walters for a long time, and I’ve never seen him show such special care to anyone else,” Cedric commented, raising an eyebrow. “Except for Lawyer Garner, you’re the only one!”
Rosalind couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions at the mention of Lawyer Garner once again.
“But your situations are different. Lawyer Garner has made significant contributions to the W Group, so it’s only natural for her to receive Mr. Walters’ attention.”
Rosalind took a few bites of her meal before casually asking, “Have you heard any rumors that Mr. Walters and Lawyer Garner might have grown up together?”
“They did know each other from a young age, but I don’t know the details,” Cedric replied.
“Oh, I see.”
“By the way, it seems like you and Mr. Walters have a great relationship too, right? Last time in Wuwood City, when you went to see him, he had just finished a meeting and was resting. But upon hearing your voice, he still let you in.”
Normally, he wouldn’t have seen anyone during that time.
A sudden recollection of past events left Rosalind feeling slightly embarrassed.
“Oh! I remember now! That business trip-you stayed in room 1501, right?”
