What a small world it was!
Rosalind had anticipated a potential encounter with members of the Ruell family before arriving, but she hadn’t expected to come face-to-face with her father so soon.
It seemed that their recent return from abroad explained his woman’s manipulative actions and persistent talk of divorce.
This was definitely not a positive development.
Cedric’s voice interrupted her thoughts, bringing her back to the present. “Do you think Dwight wants to leave SNS because there’s an issue with the company?”
Rosalind nodded, discreetly turning away from Kennard. “It’s possible. Despite the Walters family’s funding for the IPO, SNS still generates decent profits. Unless Dwight has a better opportunity, withdrawing his shares would be a cautious decision.”
Investing in a company during its early stages usually indicates a special commitment, driven by either a strong friendship or a family relationship. As an original shareholder, Dwight must have carefully considered his options before making such a move. Moreover, share changes take time from filing to execution, suggesting Dwight’s determination to leave.
“Check Dwight’s shareholdings in other companies,” Rosalind suggested.
She smiled and swiftly retrieved her phone, scrolling through it before placing it in front of Cedric. “Here’s the latest information!”
“Rosalind, I must say I’m impressed,” Cedric remarked.
Cedric was also known for his dedication to work. Without wasting any time, he began reading the documents placed in front of him, barely touching his rice noodles.
His compliment inadvertently caught Kennard’s attention from behind them.
“Rosalind?”
“…”
“It’s really you!” Kennard took a few steps forward, about to speak, but Rosalind stood up first.
“Cedric, I need to attend to something. I’ll be back in ten minutes.”
Cedric waved his hand dismissively. “Alright, go ahead.”
Rosalind walked ahead, with Kennard following her out of the rice noodle shop.
Once they stopped, he spoke harshly, “What are you doing back in Jingtown?”
“Work.”
If it weren’t for her job, she wouldn’t have set foot in this city again.
“You’re still working? Didn’t you latch onto some rich guy?”
Kennard’s words lacked any shred of dignity for his own daughter. He openly uttered them on the street without bothering to lower his voice.
“And how is that any of your concern?” Rosalind’s patience was wearing thin. “Neither my mother nor I have asked you for money or benefited from you. It would be best if you didn’t meddle in my affairs.”
“Who do you think you’re talking to?! Rosalind, I am your father! Stop acting so superior, you’re just like your mother!”
His words pushed Rosalind’s buttons. She initially wanted to deal with him and return to the shop, but his derogatory remarks about her mother were intolerable!
“We’re acting superior? Ha! Coming from a man who abandoned his family and cheated during his marriage, that’s truly laughable!”
“How dare you speak to your father like that?!”
“Save it. Tell that woman to save it too! My mother and I have distanced ourselves not because we’re weak, but because we refuse to fight over someone unworthy! If you continue pushing us, I won’t hesitate to expose everything to the media! The Ruell family still holds some reputation in Jingtown, think about the consequences.”
With that, Rosalind turned and walked back into the shop.
Behind her, Kennard seethed with anger. “Threaten me? Fine! Don’t blame me for being ruthless then! Get ready to collect your mother’s remains!”
