When Rosalind awoke, she discovered that Ulric had already left. Since it was the weekend, she decided to start her day by freshening up and tidying the house before preparing some meals to take to the hospital.
As she arrived at the V1 ward, Rosalind noticed two stern-looking men standing by the door. They appeared like characters from a TV show, dressed in black with impassive expressions. Upon approaching, they blocked her path.
“Access to this ward requires permission from the occupant.”
“… I’m Eva Perkins’ daughter.”
Initially, Rosalind assumed these individuals were hospital-assigned security personnel. However, upon inquiring further, she learned that they were actually Ulric’s personal bodyguards!
After a thorough verification process, she was granted entry into the ward. Eva, upon seeing her daughter, anxiously asked, “Who are those two men outside? They’re quite intimidating! Even the doctor had to confirm his identity to enter today!”
Rosalind placed the lunchbox down and explained, “It’s because an unauthorized person tried to enter your ward. The hospital has increased security measures.”
“Isn’t that a bit excessive? Besides, I don’t see such security in other wards.” Eva took a few bites of her food and suddenly had a thought. “By the way, you haven’t told me much about your boyfriend! What does he do for a living? He seems to have a lot of money! I found out that the V2 ward costs ten thousand a day just for the bed. Tell me the truth, don’t keep it from me.”
“Ten thousand a day?!”
Rosalind was taken aback by the price of the VIP ward. She had anticipated it to be expensive, maybe around one or two thousand, but she never imagined it would exceed ten thousand!
Observing her daughter’s surprise, Eva’s concerns deepened. “What does this man want from you? He spends money on you without revealing the reason. Could he be after your organs?”
Rosalind couldn’t help but admire her mother’s imaginative thinking. To consider Ulric an organ trafficker was quite a unique perspective.
“Are you watching too many TV dramas?” Rosalind busily assisted her mother in making the bed and then wiped down the wheelchair. “Mom, starting next Monday, I’ll be working at the head office and will have to go on a business trip to Jingtown for a few days. I won’t be able to visit. Please take care of yourself and don’t worry about me.”
“You’re going back to Jingtown?”
Bringing up Jingtown seemed to trigger something in Eva, as her expression darkened.
“It’s for work, not for leisure. I have to follow the company’s arrangements.”
Moreover, Rosalind didn’t have any particular aversion to Jingtown. She had no relatives or friends there and no fond memories to reminisce about.
“Just take care of yourself. When you return from your trip, remember to bring your boyfriend along.”
Why did the conversation always circle back to her boyfriend?
“He’s very busy and doesn’t have much free time. He’ll visit when he can.”
“You silly girl, Mom wants to vet him for you! Just because we’re using his money now doesn’t mean I’ll accept any son-in-law! If necessary, we won’t proceed with the surgery. I’ll discharge myself!”
Rosalind felt a headache coming on and preferred not to delve further into this discussion. She pulled over a chair, took out her phone, and noticed a missed call from an unknown number.
Thinking it might be work-related, she stepped out of the ward to return the call.
After a few rings, someone answered.
“Is this Rosalind? Can you come to the head office right away? I need to discuss the Huayi project contract with you in detail.”
The voice sounded familiar, and after hearing it once, Rosalind instantly recognized it-it was Sirena.
