Rosalind was taken aback by Ulric’s unexpected concern for the matter.
She mustered an awkward smile and said, “Mr. Walters, my mother is quite traditional and wouldn’t approve of our contract. I didn’t tell her the truth because I’m afraid it would upset her.”
“Are you planning to reconcile with your boyfriend once the one-year contract ends?” he asked sharply, his gaze piercing into her.
His question caught Rosalind off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless. If she had known this would happen, she wouldn’t have invented a fictional boyfriend. Now she found herself in a difficult situation.
“Well… I haven’t really thought about it,” she stammered, trying to avoid giving a definite answer. She didn’t want him to suspect that she was trying to hold onto him.
“You have thought about it,” Ulric said coldly. “Otherwise, why didn’t you tell your mother that you’ve already broken up?”
Rosalind was never good at lying, and now her mind was blank. She struggled to find the right words, “Well… I…”
“Reconsider the contract,” Ulric said, standing at the end of the hospital corridor, his tall figure partially hidden in the darkness. His tone was distant and cold.
“Rosalind, I have severe mysophobia.”
Rosalind was taken aback by the sudden shift in the conversation. Before she could say anything more, Ulric had already disappeared.
“Ulric’s mind jumps around too quickly,” Rosalind sighed, deeply perplexed. Finding a sugar daddy was proving to be quite challenging. Not only did she have to deal with his insatiable sexual appetite, but she also had to decipher his thoughts.
Back in the ward, the doctor was monitoring Eva’s heart. Seeing her daughter’s troubled expression, she asked, “What’s wrong? Did he criticize you?”
“No,” Rosalind replied, pulling up a chair and sitting down. She raised her hand to peel an apple for her mother.
“I didn’t say much, just asked him to take good care of you.” Eva recalled and then pouted, “That young man looks tall and handsome, but he’s so touchy! I didn’t say anything serious, why he got angry!”
Rosalind sighed helplessly, “Please don’t make assumptions. It has nothing to do with him. I was just thinking about work and got a bit annoyed.”
“When you face difficulties, take your time. Don’t force yourself! Go home early today, put everything aside, and get a good night’s sleep. Maybe things will resolve themselves tomorrow!”
“Okay,” Rosalind agreed. She handed the peeled apple to her mother and glanced at the time. “I really need to leave early today.”
Although she had training at the head office, she couldn’t neglect her work at Prosperity Holdings. She needed to ensure everything was properly organized.
After chatting with her mother for a while longer until it was completely dark outside, Rosalind finally left the hospital.
It seemed that she wouldn’t need to go to Easthaven Bay today, so she headed straight back to her previous residence.
After taking a shower and changing into pajamas, her phone on the table started ringing.
It was Ulric’s number!
After hesitating for a moment, Rosalind answered, “Hello, Mr. Walters!”
“Miss Ruell, it’s me!” It was Ulric’s assistant on the other end. “Mr. Walters is drunk. We’re at Red Summit International. Can you come and pick him up?”
“What? Why don’t you send him back to Easthaven Bay?” Rosalind questioned, feeling unsure if she could handle the situation. She didn’t have a car or the strength to support him. How could she pick him up?
“No! I… I also had a few drinks!” the assistant confessed.
Rosalind frowned slightly. Ulric had his own lovers, it wasn’t necessarily her responsibility. But in the end, she didn’t refuse.
“Alright then, wait for me. I’ll be there in about half an hour.”
