A substitute…
Ah, who else could it refer to but herself? It must be her.
He was clearly explaining the situation with the marriage certificate to his true love.
At this moment, Rosalind felt like a clown! She had forcefully inserted herself between a couple.
Before, she had wondered why Ulric had chosen her. Now everything made sense!
No wonder…
No wonder Ulric said she was the most suitable! After all, finding someone with a face similar to his true love, except for the blood relation, would have been quite difficult. She was practically destined to be “Sirena’s substitute.”
Rosalind didn’t know whether to despise this coincidence or be grateful for it!
Because without being a substitute, her mother wouldn’t have had the money for treatment.
Seeing Rosalind’s conflicted and complex expression, Sirena knew she definitely didn’t recognize her and… probably misunderstood something now.
But she liked this misunderstanding.
After a brief pause, she placed her wine glass down, gestured for Rosalind to sit with a gentle look, then walked to the door of the lounge and softly spoke to the person inside, “Now that I’m back, I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. I’ll stay with you to face everything together.”
“That would be best.”
Rosalind couldn’t bear to listen any longer. An inexplicable emotion swept over her, prompting her to take two steps back and lower her voice, “It seems Mr. Walters is busy. I’ll come back later.”
With that, she left without waiting for a response.
Sirena watched the door close and slightly curled her red lips. Her tone returned to normal, “Ulric, you can safely dismiss that substitute from the legal department. With me here, no one can tarnish W Group’s name.”
The lounge door finally opened. Ulric walked out with a composed face, buttoning the top button of his shirt with his long fingers.
“Mm, thank you for your hard work.”
Sirena wanted to reach out to help him, but Ulric instinctively avoided her.
He was always like this, never giving her any chance to get close.
Her fingertips stiffened briefly before she masked it with a smile, “Your obsession with cleanliness is still so severe. What will you do when you get married if even an old friend can’t touch you?”
Ulric didn’t answer her question. He glanced at the office door with his dark eyes and frowned slightly, “Did someone come by just now?”
“No.” Sirena calmly replied, “Was someone supposed to come?”
“Mm, you don’t know her.” He sat back in his chair, crossing his long legs. “Go find Johnny first. Let me know when you’ve decided where to meet.”
With such an obvious dismissal, what more could Sirena say?
“Alright, I won’t disturb your work then.”
After she left, Ulric picked up the office phone, intending to call Rosalind again but hesitated. Instead, he sent a text message:
[Come directly to Easthaven Bay after work.]
Easthaven Bay was the name of his residence.
After a while, she replied: [I can’t go. I need to accompany my mom tonight. Also, it’s work hours now. Do you need anything else, Mr. Walters?]
“…”
She was truly repeating his words verbatim.
Ulric couldn’t help but smile.
In middle school, Rosalind had this personality. Although she seemed to endure everything and was easygoing, she was actually sensitive, sharp, and insecure.
She was like a cat, always ready with her little claws to guard against anyone getting close.
He knew that countless grievances and heartaches must lie behind this, leading to such an outcome.
[It’s about the Huayi project.]
[I have to work two more hours of overtime. I can be there around eight.]

In the office, Rosalind looked at the text message again, feeling puzzled.
Ulric’s true love had returned, why did he still want her to go to Easthaven Bay?
It couldn’t be to watch them being affectionate together.
Could it be… he wanted to discuss terminating their agreement?
Thinking of this made Rosalind feel agitated.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t let go of Ulric, it was mainly because her mother’s surgery was imminent. Without Ulric’s support, she feared the doctors wouldn’t be as attentive!
But now that his true love had returned, she couldn’t continue occupying her place!
