I knew Colton was holding back telling me things until after I shifted, I knew there was so much to his world I had yet to learn.
But, I was also worried that Jenny would get away with it because of being a treason hoe and walking with moonwalkers just like her father.
I had a lot of questions to ask Colton after all of this, like why hadn’t he asked the council for help over Marcus, and what was with his freak-out over my royalty blood ?
It’s the full moon tomorrow, Toby said then, interrupting my thoughts and answering me.
I looked over to see him standing over by the window looking out. Ray was stretched out on Colton’s other couch, snoring annoyingly loud.
Ray and Toby haven’t left my side either and Mike came in and out to take blood samples. I think it was safe to say I now resembled a druggie with all the bandages on my arms and extreme bad hair.
I don’t think going out will be such a good idea, since you’re about to get a tail, Toby teased.
Ugh ! I scrunched up my face and threw one of Colton’s really expensive looking cushions at him, it hit him in the back. But a tail ? I was going to have a freaking tail ? Where would it come from ? Now that was a scary thought that I didn’t want to dwell on.
Wolf ! Ray jumped up in his sleep making us all jump and look over towards him.
That you are, Toby said and raised his eyebrow as Ray’s sudden dream outburst. I snorted as Ray rubbed the sleep from his face and groaned into his hands. Toby moved and ruffled Ray’s bed hair. Awe, did the baba have a nightmare ?
Ray swatted him away, but smiled. Yeah, your mother was in it.
It seemed even they were back on good terms, which was great, I hated seeing them argue. Ray was being surprisingly nice, even though I could tell he was still pissed off. A few times I would even witness a few death glares Colton’s way and vice versa.
I had to give it to them though, they were trying to be normal around me, which was helping me relax.
My mum’s a saint, Toby protested. Tell your sister she can’t go out.
Ray looked at me amusedly. Shall we go out and trash Toby’s car ?
Yes ! I lightened up and attempted to get up, but Colton pushed me back down with his arm.
Don’t even think about it, Colton said with the phone still pressed to his ear. I would have to replace that car and he isn’t cheap.
He smiled at me and I rolled my eyes. You’re no fun.
Hey ! Toby said making us all look at him, his own hair was messy, sticking up in every direction. He looked like he hadn’t slept. What has she ever done to the pair of you ?
Who’s she ? I asked, raising my eyebrow.
My car, I call her beauty, He laughed. And I call myself beast.
Beauty and the beast, how original, Ray grinned as I laughed. You’re such an idiot.
At least I have a nice car, Toby stated smugly as Ray stood up and stretched.
This is why you don’t have a girlfriend, man.
Oh yeah, what’s your excuse ? Toby shot back and Ray narrowed his eyes at him challengingly.
Meanwhile I was sitting back very much enjoying the entertaining show. Well, that was until I got a pain shooting through my skull that had me yanking my arms from out of the blanket and cradling my head.
This wasn’t like a headache. It was like shoots of unrelenting pain that had my eyes watering.
Colton immediately put the phone down on the table and shifted closer beside me, one of his cool hands placed on top of my temple and he started massaging my head.
I sighed and ended up falling into him from the weakness I felt from his touch, it was nice.
I’ll see if Mike has anything for the pain, he said in my ear as his fingers worked magic on my head, the shooting pain subsiding as I closed my eyes.
This is a pain in th I stopped speaking because the pain was gone, just like that, gone. Colton dropped his hands and smiled as I sat up straight. Thanks.
Suddenly the pain shot back into my head and I screamed out loud. It was back and pounding the living daylights out of me. I scrunched my hair in my fists and fell forward, my head was throbbing, shooting agony that had me scrunching up my face and feeling sick enough to vomit.
Mike ! Colton yelled and wrapped his arms around me. The room was spinning, my vision becoming blurred from my tears. What was this ? The hot, splitting pain burned from my head, down my throat and into my chest, wrapping my heart in fire.
It was that bad I thought I was going to die. I could see Ray kneel in front of me, fear wide in his eyes. He was shouting, but the sounds of everyone were muffled and I couldn’t make sense of anything. All I could hear was faint growling, it sounded like a dog growling and terror bit through me.
What was that ? I started panting for air as the pain lessened but then hit me again even worse like a wave.
Make it stop, make it stop ! I begged, but before I had time to blink something catapulted me from the couch and ripped me out of Colton’s arms. My body was thrown forward, my head whacking off the corner of the coffee table. I blacked out, falling and falling down a black hole.
Layla. A cruel voice called me in the distance, the growling rumbling louder around me.
No ! I yelled out with fear.
Carlos appeared out of the thick darkness of mist and that’s when I noticed we were inside The Wolf Cave, but the dance floor was empty and it was just me and Carlos. He was waiting for me, to take me away from Colton.
Stay away from me !
He laughed, cold and clear and it shot trembles down my aching spine. I’ll be waiting for you.
Finding some strength, I got up and ran through Colton’s deserted club, but there were no doors, I was trapped. Whimpering, I turned around to see that Carlos was gone, but when I turned back he was standing right there in front of me.
Ahh ! I screamed and stumbled back, but he caught my arm and pulled me into his big body, that face, that crazy, scary face was menacing just like his grey eyes.
I am waiting for you Layla, here, in this club. Come and find me. I’ll be waiting, he whispered into my ear.
I cried, tears rolling down my face as I fought to get out of his grip. He brought his hand up and yanked my head back by my hair so fiercely I thought my neck might snap.
I was stunned to the core as he bent his head and brought his lips crashing down onto mine, his tongue slipping into meet mine.
I growled out in disgust and tried to jerk away, smacking his arms with my hands and kicking out.
This was wrong and I hated it, he pulled away before I could attempt to push him away. I’ll be waiting.
He let go of me, and my body hit the floor. I cried as I felt the darkness lifting, The Wolf Cave disappearing around me and I was back in Colton’s living room, crouched into a corner and shaking violently.
