His tone was harsh as Aria glared at him “Abigor” she whispered menacingly as Abigor ignored her.
He always let his emotions get the best of him when something concerned her.
“I. . .” Karl hesitated before continuing “I wanted to prove Kahlil innocent, I know the way you looked at him yesterday. You doubt him.”
Surely after spending almost 2 decades with Abigor, Karl knew the meaning behind each of his expressions. His heart felt heavy when he realized that his boss doubted Kahlil.
I doubt you too. Abigor thought while clutching his phone tightly.
“. . . and me” Karl whispered with a little hurt “You doubt me too”
Aria let out an inaudible gasp as she gaped at the screen of his phone, while Abigor stood still. He expected nothing less from his right-hand man, his friend.
“Cut the crap, Karl,” Abigor hissed “Don’t become a pussy for someone who doesn’t even have one”
Aria grimaced at his reply while Karl let out a small tired sigh from the other side.
I’d be tired of his bullshit too. Aria thought.
“Anyway boss, the location is the underbridge in front of The Grand Royal Residency”
“Got it” Abigor paused, before continuing “Did you prove it?”
Karl kept quiet for a bit “I can’t see him around here, I think that’s a good sign”
“We’ll be there” Abigor ignored his reply “Make sure to surround the area and as subtly as possible”
“Of course boss”
The phone beeped as Abigor turned to look at Aria “Let’s go”
Aria and Abigor quietly stood in the shadows, watching the empty area of the underbridge. A small warehouse was built at a distance as they shared a look between them.
While holding the gun with his right hand, Abigor lifted his left hand and pointed towards the shabby warehouse.
His men formed two lines and silently approached it, with their guns loaded. Aria roamed her gaze around the area, spotting neither Sylvia nor Kahlil.
Kahlil isn’t here. She reassured herself. He would never betray me.
She was worried about Kahlil betraying her when she found out he wasn’t in the apartment building. When she tried calling him, his phone was in his room.
Maybe he was out doing his own investigation.
“I told you no one is here boss, I already checked” Karl whispered from beside them as Abigor sharply watched his men investigating the empty warehouse
“Ants don’t come out of their hills unless you throw sugar at them” Abigor whispered back and then turned to look at Aria.
“You wait here-”
“No” Aria cut him off with determination-laced features as Abigor gritted his teeth.
“Aria” he groaned “You should be thankful I let you come this far-”
“Let me?” She interrupted again with a low chuckle “They are my enemies, Abigor. They are here for me. I cannot let you danger yourself, what you are doing now is enough”
His eyes darkened as he grabbed her tight ponytail and jerked her towards himself, their bulletproof vests felt like an unwelcomed obstacle for him.
“Watch your mouth, little girl” he whispered in her ear as she gulped a lump in her throat “How many times do I have to tell you that they are not just your enemies anymore? Stop pushing me away”
Aria glared in his eyes, the golden ring around his dark eyes stared deep within her soul. She practically heard a crack on the walls she had so carefully constructed around her heart.
If this continued, she would be forced to be dependent on him. Her breaths would be just enough so that she could spend the next moment with him. Her days would start with him and end with him.
The thought did nothing but scare her.
A small clearing of throat broke their trance as Abigor saw Karl pointing towards the warehouse. Aria looked at his men waving their heads as a signal that no one was inside.
Abigor grinded his teeth in frustration as he stretched his head to one side, a low crack was heard as he sighed.
“Let’s go” he mumbled as Aria gave a small smile and loaded her gun while following closely behind him, roaming her gaze carefully around.
“Karl, you keep watch” he ordered Karl, as he nodded while pulling up his dark mask, blending in with the shadows.
Abigor slowly moved towards their destination while making sure to keep Aria safe behind him.
His men bowed in front of them as they carefully entered the deserted warehouse.
Abigor’s cunning eyes inspected the empty room, a single table on top of which scattered cards laid. Empty glasses, smashed bottles, the patchy ground with selected wet spots.
“Someone was definitely here” Aria whispered out what Abigor was thinking.
He put a single finger over his lips, indicating her to keep it low as approached the table discreetly while she chose to stand near the door.
He flipped through the cards, as his eyes stopped at a certain white sheet of paper.
“Apartment Urban Retreat, Room 206”
It was clearly her address written on it and Abigor gritted his teeth, recognizing the handwriting.
A small gasp made him turn back in a second and point the gun towards Aria.
She stood there with a knife pressed to her slim throat as the person holding her hostage jerked her head back, making the knife dig into her soft flesh.
Blood rushed through his head as anger exploded in his chest as he stared at the haunting dark eyes. His hand shook in fury as he controlled himself to not shoot him at sight.
“Kahlil”
Kahlil shivered as he stared at Aria, standing there bloodied with Salvador’s unrecognizable body laid on the bed.
His stare traveled down to the other dead body with a gunshot between his eyes.
How could someone be this heartless?
He watched as she talked to Sylvia without a care in the world. As if she hadn’t just slaughtered two men.
This wasn’t the sister he loved. She had turned into a monster.
He walked down the empty hallway to go grab their belongings from the basement as the cold wind blowing outside made him hiss in pain.
The almost fresh stab wound, awarded by his sister, hurt when it came in contact with anything cold.
He placed a hand on his lower stomach in pain for a moment before picking up their bags and walking back to his sister.
A sudden force from behind, made him trip over the hard wooden floor, and he fell with his face pressed against the ground.
He grimaced when he felt a huge boot squeezing his head forcefully against the ground. The boot left his head for a moment, before kicking it hard and making him stumble against the wall.
Kahlil groaned in pain and looked up to see a huge figure hidden by the darkness. Thunder roared in the sky, making a streak of lightning appear in the outside the window.
His eyes widened when Silverio’s face flashed against the sudden light with anger already gracing his sharp features.
“I thought I got you killed”
His deep voice rumbled as Kahlil gulped and sat up slowly, shrinking against the wall while clutching the bags.
Silverio’s eyes wandered around the bags before looking up again at Kahlil’s fearful eyes “You are running” he stated while studying the heavy luggage “And you are not alone”
Silverio squatted in front of him and grabbed his collar roughly “Who do you work for?”
Kahlil shivered in terror as his jade eyes filled with rage stared intensely at him.
“It’s that bitch isn’t it?”
Kahlil’s eyes widened as a lazy smirk crossed Silverio’s features.
“Bingo” he mumbled pulling out his gun and pressing it against Kahlil’s temple “What does she want?”
Kahlil kept quiet as silent tears escaped his eyes. He shook his head negatively, refusing to betray his sister.
The gun dug into his skin tightly as Kahlil groaned, a fearceful punch was delivered to his lower stomach where he had the stab wound.
He cried out in pain while clutching it tightly.
“She stabbed you” He spit on his face “She betrayed her accomplice when she was on a tight rope”
Kahlil’s face fell as it felt like a bucket of cold water splashed on his face.
“It was lucky you survived this time” Silverio continued “What do you think will happen if she is put on the spot again? Will you survive, little boy?”
Kahlil’s heart squeezed as he looked down at his stab wound. All these years of loyalty meant nothing to her, his love for her meant nothing. He knew she wouldn’t hesitate to kill him if it benefitted her in some way.
