Aria’s eyes snapped open as she slapped his hand away and glared at him “How dare you” she mumbled with anger lacing her words.
Abigor’s eyes darkened in simmering rage as he snarled vehemently “It’s the only possibility”
She shot up from her seat “He has been there with me from childhood, he believed in me when no one else did, and he risked his life countless times for me” she bent down to look directly into his shimmering eyes “He was there with me from the beginning, not you”
A strong hand fisted her hair and jerked her face closer to him, their lips almost touching “Are you suspecting me, little girl?”
His eyes murderous, yet his face remained expressionless.
Aria dropped her glare at his accusation “I’m just saying, it cannot be Kahlil”
“People change” his simple sentence stabbed her heart like the deadliest weapon, as he continued “You never know a person’s true intentions, unless and until their own life is on the line”
“No-”
“Kahlil is young, inexperienced, and most of all impulsive. He’s at a stage where he listens to his heart more than his brain” Abigor explained as he pulled her, till she was completely sitting on his lap, straddling him “Be it for love, hate or revenge”
Her heart thumped as she fisted his shirt and bit her bottom lip. No. She couldn’t take a betrayal, not from her brother she had cared for all her life.
“It cannot be him” she whispered with conviction as she stared at his eyes.
“It cannot be or you do not want him to be?” his snarky comment was unwarranted.
“Doesn’t matter what I want, it’s what is true” her reply came almost instantly as her cold hands went to softly pull at his hair at the back of his neck “What will you do if it’s Karl?”
Her voice was cold as she assessed his expression carefully.
“I’ll kill him”
He said as if it meant nothing to him as if the years they spent together meant nothing. Abigor was ruthless and unforgiving.
“There is no place for people who betray me” he looked deep into her chocolate eyes as his hand slipped down to grip her ass firmly, making her wince lowly.
“I betrayed you” her words came out low as an ominous feeling sank in her heart.
“Then I guess you are an exception” he smiled wryly as he tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear “Maybe that’s how much I love you”
Aria blushed furiously as she leaned against his bare and firm chest. Ever since confessing her sins, she had felt lighter and felt that she could lay down her walls, at least around him.
The hair behind both of their neck stood up as their head snapped towards the main door.
They turned their head back to look each other in the eye, silently communicating through it, as the both of them stood up in a start.
Someone was here. Someone sneaky, someone clever, someone cunning.
Abigor put his hand in front of her, stopping her a few feet away from the door “I’ll check first”
He picked up his gun from the table and cocked it towards the door, silently advancing towards it. His sharp gaze landed on a thin envelope on the floor near the main door.
Someone slid it in.
He gritted his teeth as he abruptly opened the door, running his gaze around the empty corridor, only seeing his men on alert near the elevator.
They bowed down as soon as they saw their Don.
“Was there anyone here just now?” he asked, his voice on edge.
“No sir, we have been keeping watch all night. Not a single soul” one of his men, brave enough to look the Don in the eye spoke.
“Speak what is asked” Abigor gritted out, already pissed off at their uselessness because someone was surely here “Speaking more can get you killed”
The guard’s eyes widened in fear as he bowed quickly “Sorry sir”
The loud noise of the door getting shut reverberated through the empty corridor as Abigor turned back to look at Aria already standing near him with the envelope clutched in her hand.
She stared at the envelope, as she slowly pulled out a single sheet of paper from within it.
In haunting cursive, the words were scribbled in the middle of the page.
“It’s time.
~ S”
“It’s time.
~S”
“Who the fuck sent this?”
Abigor roared, snatching the piece of paper and examing it carefully. Those were the single words written there, nothing else.
“It’s Sylvia” Aria whispered “It’s a signal that Silverio has made up his mind to kill me today and that I’d have to end him before that”
Abigor took in a sharp intake of breath as his eyes narrowed into angry slits “How-”
A loud ringing of her phone, interrupted him as Aria ran towards it with Abigor hot on her tail.
An unknown number lit up the screen as she looked up at Abigor, trying to decide what to do.
He nodded and motioned towards the ringing phone “On the speaker” he instructed while crossing his arm in front of his chest.
She nodded and picked up the phone and put it on speaker.
“I don’t like being put on speaker, it invades my privacy”
A cold voice greeted her as Aria sighed out in relief, Sylvia always wanted to make her entries dramatic.
“Is it true?” Aria asked, getting straight to the point and failing to understand why she used a letter instead of just telling her on the phone.
“Sure is, sister” Sylvia agreed before continuing “I don’t know how that bastard dug up your location, but once he did, it was pretty easy for me to get it”
“Someone from the inside is helping him,” Aria said while Abigor nodded while listening to their conversation silently and focusing on each word.
“I’ll bet my fake ass that it’s that Abigor, he’s a greedy bastard after that new missile” Sylvia scornfully noted as she added “Do you hear me, Abigor Hayes? I think you are the snitch”
“Sylvia-!”
“Watch your tone” Abigor growled menacingly “Otherwise Silverio will not be the only one dead today”
“Confidence, I like it” Sylvia chuckled “Anyway, I don’t have much time, this burner phone is running out and I wanted to tell you his hideout”
“Well? Get to it” Abigor barked, already tired of her.
“Patience is a virtue, Mr. Hayes”
“Sylvia” Aria warned in a low voice as Sylvia huffed from the other side.
“The underbridge in front of the Grand Royal Residency” Aria nodded as she looked up at Abigor, who ran his hand up and down her back reassuringly “They are planning to attack tonight”
The phone beeped as the line went dead.
Aria groaned in frustration “I knew it was coming, but so soon”
“It’s not soon, he waited a year probably collecting information” Abigor replied “He confirmed your identity in the charity event”
Aria nodded in understanding while turning around to look directly into his eyes “Well I better go and kill that piece of shit now”
As she tried to take a step away from him, Abigor grabbed the back of her neck harshly and pulled her against his muscular chest.
“Don’t even think about going there alone” he whispered lowly in her ear as she shivered and squeezed her eyes shut.
“It’s my fight Abigor, I’m done using you” she mumbled in a hard voice, trying to put up walls against herself once again.
But Abigor was tired of this shit by now.
His hand squeezed her neck tightly “It’s our fight now. And you cannot use me if I’m doing it willingly”
“Abig-”
“You walked into a death trap the moment you locked your eyes with me at the Gala, there’s no way out now” he gritted “Now, we don’t have to argue around”
He left her neck when she defeatedly nodded.
“We should go attack, there’s no point in waiting around-”
Abigor’s phone rang, interrupting him as he let out a low curse and pulled it out.
He looked at Aria when they saw who was calling. She nodded at him with eyebrows furrowed in determination as he picked up the call.
“Boss” Karl greeted.
“What” Abigor replied coldly, thinking about the possibility of him betraying him.
Aria squeezed his arm, warning him to keep his voice normal to avoid suspicions.
“It isn’t confirmed, but I think I found Silverio’s hideout”
Aria’s eyes widened as Abigor nodded expressionlessly.
“You acted without my order?” Abigor retorted “Where are you right now?”
