She knew that if she moved, he’d get angrier. And her taser was in her purse which she was dumb enough to leave at the car.
“Will you trust me if I tell you a part of my story?”
At this, her beautiful brown eyes peered up at him in interest. She didn’t wear any contacts today, so a piece of her real self was here.
“Maybe” she replied while shrugging.
Abigor doubted this little nymph but he knew that if he wanted something, he’d have to give something in return. He didn’t mind if it was her.
“It’s almost 10-12 years ago when the American Mafia and the Spanish Mafia were at war. . .”
Abigor held on tightly to the old man’s hand as he helped him up the stairs of his shabby house.
“You shouldn’t come out so much these days old man, you know how it is nowadays” a young Abigor spoke as the old man waved his hands dismissively and opened the door of his house.
“I don’t have to worry when I have young lads like you to protect us” the man laughed and patted the younger boy’s shoulder.
It was the year of bloodshed. One of the greatest Mafia wars of the century between the Spanish Mafia and the American Mafia created a lot of destruction.
It was the year when people could be shot anywhere and everywhere without a second’s thought, young women to old women were raped in the streets, young men who were loyal to their mafia were impaled.
The Spanish mafia was responsible for the deaths in America, while the American Mafia were responsible for the deaths in Spain.
In such a tough time, Abigor saw the old man every day during his routine inspection of the area. The old man just wanted a reason to get out of the cramped house.
“Don’t come out from tomorrow” Abigor said in a stern voice. He had grown quite attached to the old man, they’d talk about random things while Abigor walked him back home.
It was a breath of fresh air for him.
“Yes yes,” the man said carelessly while sauntering inside his house, leaving the door wide open.
“CLOSE THE DAMN DOOR OLD MAN” Abigor shouted while slamming the door shut from the outside. After a few minutes, he heard a click from the inside.
“Done!” the man shouted from inside as Abigor chuckled and lowly kicked the door to check.
When the door didn’t open wide, he turned back “Don’t let me see your face tomorrow, or consider yourself dead”
A series of laughter followed from the inside as Abigor stuffed his hands in his pant pockets and gulped down a smile.
He descended the stairs as his gaze fell on an ice cream truck speeding on the road. He’d have to go have a word with that dumb ice cream truck driver. No one was allowed in the streets nowadays, except the mafias.
The place was crawling with criminals.
His eyes followed the truck, memorizing the number and as soon as he tore his gaze away, it landed on a little girl running behind it. Her light pink frock fluttered in the gloomy area as her raven hair cascaded down her small form.
“Woah” Abigor shouted as the girl halted and looked at him with bright, horrified eyes “where are your parents?”
The girl gulped as she looked ahead at the ice cream truck again, longingly as he followed her gaze. Abigor crouched down in front of her line of sight as she gulped her fears down.
“Don’t tell me you came out because of that ice cream truck?” he asked with furrowed brows as he saw the girl nod meekly before looking down.
He noticed the cars of his Mafia roaming around the streets, if they saw the kid her surely she’d be in trouble. He grabbed the kid’s scrawny hand and dragged her towards the side.
A beautiful flowerbed adorned the sidewalks where the stains of sin were still prominent.
“Mister! I’m sorry!” the kid’s soft voice came out as he crouched down again.
“Do you know how dangerous it is to roam around now?” he lightly scolded as the girl’s eyes welled up in tears and her lower lip quivered.
“I wanted ice cream” she whispered as she kept looking in the direction where the truck had disappeared.
Abigor sighed as he looked down at the bright sunflower blooming proudly in the flowerbed “Do you have a mom or dad?”
She nodded all the while ignoring his gaze “Do you love them?”
“Of course!” she said with full confidence which almost made Abigor chuckle.
“Do you know if our enemies catch you, what will they do?” he asked again as she pouted and looked down.
“They will kill me”
The kids were taught everything, they were made known of the reality of the world. So everyone knew exactly what would happen to them if they got captured.
“Will your parents be sad?”
“She’d cry” her voice wavered as Abigor held her small hands in his.
“Do you want your Mom or Dad to cry?”
She shook her head negative hastily as he sighed in relief.
“Then don’t come out of your house” he flicked her forehead as she stumbled back a bit and her hand fled up to the spot, her big brown eyes peered up at him.
“Ok” she mumbled as Abigor looked beside her to see a woman running towards them with a concerned look on her face.
“Is that your mom?” he asked as the kid turned to look at her.
“Yup!” she said excitedly as Abigor gave out a small smile and pluck the sunflower from the flowerbed.
“Here” he forwarded the flower to the kid as she stared at it in confusion “It’s not ice cream but I hope you like it”
The kid smiled and took it, and as if on cue the mother came to them huffing and out of breath.
“Mia! I told you not to run around!” the mother scolded the kid as the girl pouted again.
“Mom, it’s for you” she gave the sunflower to her mother as her mother glared at it for a few seconds, contemplating whether to remain mad or melt.
She of course melted as she crouched down and hugged her daughter. After parting the mother took the flower and offered a smile to her daughter “Thank you baby”
The kid’s eyes widened as if she saw the 8th wonder in the world.
“Make sure it doesn’t happen next time” Abigor’s stern voice, made the mother-daughter snap their head up at him.
The mother instantly stood up and bowed in front of him “I apologize Mr Hayes”
Even though Abigor hadn’t taken over the reign of the Mafia yet, he was well known as the next successor.
He saw the small girl bouncing on her feet as the mother dragged her away. A small smile tugged on his face when the girl turned back and waved at him happily.
His smile instantly fell when he saw a sleek black limo rolling down beside him and finally coming to a halt. The tinted windows lowered as a man with a hard look glared at Abigor.
“Father”
“Father”
Abigor said with an emotionless face as he saw his father getting out of the car.
“Son” he sighed while running his hands through his hair “What were you doing?”
His father’s cunning gaze traveled to the direction of the little girl in distaste as Abigor stepped in his line of sight, making him look at him again.
“I was doing my routine patrols” he answered stoically.
Draven, his father, sighed and clenched his jaw “Didn’t I order to imprison the people who roam the streets without any permit for a few days as punishment?”
