Chapter 205: On the Verge

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-9-12

So far, at the height of the commotion, only a few people had seen Mrs. Oconnor. Not only would they not spread rumors, but they would also likely embellish the story, praising Callie. At the very least, Nelson’s status ensured that no one would dare gossip for the sake of their future.
A lifestyle assistant from the secretary’s office came to serve the dishes. She was shocked to see Callie but maintained a calm demeanor due to her professional training, though her mind was in turmoil.
Wasn’t this Miss Marsh from the design department? The somewhat mysterious figure who had been in a car accident for a project recently, a story that had circulated in Oconnor Group for several days.
Unlike the senior executives earlier, the assistant was stunned to learn that Callie was Mrs. Oconnor. Her thoughts raced: Oh, no wonder Callie has been appearing frequently these days; this explains it.
Nelson’s working lunch was sumptuous, but Callie ate absentmindedly, habitually checking the time. Nelson noticed her distraction and displeasure surfaced. “It’s still early before work.”
Callie, caught by his keen observation, reluctantly focused on her meal, intending to finish lunch quickly.
She was worried that more people would be around the floors and elevators later, making it hard to explain if seen.
Seeing Nelson’s growing irritation at her urgency, she tried to soothe him. “What do you want for dinner?”
Nelson looked at her. “Are you going to cook for me?”
“If I…”
“Sweet and sour ribs, braised ribs, steamed ribs, corn rib soup.” Before Callie could finish, Nelson quickly listed a series of dishes without hesitation.
Callie was stunned. Since when did he love ribs so much?
Eventually, Nelson couldn’t hold back and laughed at Callie’s slightly dazed expression.
He ruffled her hair and heard her ask, “Since when do you love ribs so much?”
Nelson’s smile relaxed a bit as he gestured for her to eat. “Just teasing you.”
Annoyed, Callie ignored him and focused on her meal.
After lunch, she wanted to leave first but was pulled back by Nelson, who made her sit on his lap, holding her face-to-face. His voice was hoarse. “Don’t rush. Stay with me for a while?”
It wasn’t that Callie was impure; it was just that whenever he clung to her, it never ended well.
“I still have work to finish.”
Nelson ignored her protests, burying his head in her collarbone. His stiff hair pricked her delicate skin, causing a mix of pain and tickles.
Callie laughed as she held his head. “Hey! The door isn’t closed.”
Nelson looked up, his eyes twinkling like stars. “They wouldn’t dare come in.”
In this position, Callie was slightly elevated while Nelson looked up for a kiss. She gently lowered her head, touching his soft lips.
Once close, it was bound to ignite.
With each deep kiss, their lips and tongues intertwined passionately. Soon, Callie found it hard to breathe, but Nelson didn’t let go, sharing his breath with her.
His hands roamed freely, abandoning any pretense of being a serious executive.
As she felt his hands’ warmth, an old joke she had read popped into Callie’s mind.
Someone asked: “Why do boys always like to touch girls’ chests when kissing?”
The answer: “Because their hands are free and they need to touch something.”
It was a risque joke.
Callie almost lost control. His skilled touch ignited a fire of desire within her. She barely managed to escape his embrace, gasping for air. “Time is too tight…”
