“You’re beautiful,” Donovan whispered, waking me up.
We were still in the same position as we fell asleep last night. My head had barely moved from his shoulder in hours, his arm must hurt.
Damn, I had discovered the way I wanted to wake up every day of my life. Feeling his heartbeat and his breathing underneath me was harmonious, calming, and wonderfully spectacular. With each beat, I could confirm how much this boy got under my skin.
I tried to pull away, but he immediately pressed me against him so that I wouldn’t move. “What happened to the non-sentimental Donovan?”
I tried to joke as I yawned and kissed his neck before getting comfortable again. It was dark outside at that moment, I didn’t even know what time it was. Had Donovan slept at all?
“You’re right, you’re repulsive,” he blurted out of nowhere, and I hit him in his rib, but it didn’t seem to bother him at all. Donovan smiled at me and kissed my forehead, causing nerve endings to die in the process. Waking up like this with him was too perfect.
“You’re also beautiful,” I confessed, a little fearful. He said nothing, so I took the opportunity to grab my phone from my jeans to see that we had an hour left before classes. “We have to get up and go.”
Again, I tried to move away, but his hand was heavy, keeping me still.
“No,” he merely responded, and I swear to God he sniffed my hair. Was he now some kind of territorial dog?
“Yep,” I let him know, lightly tapping his chest to let me go, but he was unfazed. He was a stubborn jerk. “Please?”
He let out a big sigh and let me get up, as if that was the hardest thing in the world. I turned on the light and gave my minimal attention to how Donovan stretched to wake up. Did I mention he didn’t put on his shirt last night? I was about to die from lack of oxygen.
“Do you happen to have a men’s shirt by any chance?” he asked, and I looked away, clearing my throat, trying to get the heat from my cheeks to go away.
I thought about his question and laughed, I couldn’t help being ironic sometimes, and I loved myself for it. Having the ability to quickly process a stupid question and give a cruelly intelligent answer is my best attribute.
“Now that you mention it, yes. I keep the shirts of all the men who sleep with me at night,” I replied, entering the bathroom and closing the door behind me.
I heard how Donovan practically ran to the door that separated us, but he didn’t dare to open it. “Are there many?”
I wet my face and started brushing my teeth before responding. I couldn’t take a shower with Donovan here… or maybe I could. “I have a whole closet full.”
I came out of the bathroom and Donovan was already sulking with his arms crossed around his chest. We’re starting to exaggerate. “Bad joke, Alice.”
“Tell that to your face, for me, it’s hilarious,” I said, searching for a different shirt and another pair of jeans. When I found them, I looked at Donovan who still had a big frown on his face.
I walked towards him and taking all the daring I had last night, I put my hands on his neck, caressing him. “Can you give me a kiss?”
Looking at me as if I was killing him, he denied and bit his lip to stop himself from laughing. “No.”
“Give me a kiss,” I pleaded.
“No,” he repeated.
“Well, if that’s what you want…” I let him go, turned around and he grabbed my wrist to turn me around and give me a soft kiss on the lips.
He placed a hand on my cheek, caressing me, and the regret of having gotten up from bed had appeared.
I lightly bit his lower lip, pulling away and taking a handful of his shirt, I spoke to him, “Go with this, it looks great on you.”
He gave me a chaste kiss and moved towards the window. “I think I have clothes in the trunk.”
“Who keeps clothes in the trunk?” I asked, teasing him a bit, hoping he was really joking.
He cleared his throat and bit his lower lip, knowing he was going to annoy me. “I have to be prepared, you know, every time I stay overnight at a girl’s house.”
I shivered and took a pillow from the bed to throw at him. He dodged it and I cursed his very good reflexes. “Who’s making bad jokes now?”
In a mocking way, he showed me his tongue and made a gesture with his head referring to the place where his car was. “I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
“No, Cris is coming to pick me up, see you at school…”
My words faded the moment Donovan crossed my path, he was blocking me from going to the bathroom.
“No way,” He furrowed his brow before placing his hand on my hip. Why did he do that? “Call him and tell him I’ll take you.”
I shook my head and he gave me a confused look. “What’s the difference?”
“That I’m Donovan, he’s Cris. I don’t know why you even consider it.”
I laughed and let out a big sigh, it was no use. “Yes, yes, arrogant, see you at school.”
I dodged him, but he stopped me again. His arm grabbed my waist and anchored me to his chest. “Call him, for me?”
I bit my upper lip cursing Donovan for having so much control over me. “That’s playing dirty.”
“You want to see how dirty I can play?” he said in a hoarse and desirous voice.
“Damn, no. He’s not going to make me go through last night again,” I swore and pushed him away. His touch felt like a hot mark, and I found that I don’t have much self-control when it comes to him.
“Stay away,” I managed to say with a tight throat and my damn hormones wanting to take control, I gave in. “Fine, wait for me downstairs.”
“Perfect,” he added quite cheerfully. His smile reached his eyes.
I rolled my eyes and showed him my middle finger. “Don’t smile like that, it’s just for today.”
“Yeah, sure,” he whispered hoping I wouldn’t hear him, but I did. When I was going to reply that he should go to hell and that I wouldn’t go with him, he had already disappeared.
Suddenly the moment was the hardest to face.
Suddenly a minute away from him is too long.
Suddenly I just think about running to where he is.
Suddenly I felt like I had lost control of my actions.
And I didn’t want to understand how I got to where I was. I didn’t want to hear anything rational, not when everything happening to me was beyond reason.
